Chording a song , new question
« on: March 03, 2005, 10:22:26 AM »
Ok, I know i'm a little dense at times but this is the issue I'm running into....
I'm learning a song by ear/memory now and it seems that every note I play is the bassline is copied in the chords my right hand is playing, at times it seems my bassline follows the chords in the right hand. Is this normal? Are there substitutions that I can make just to not make the song sound so "bland"? :?

So I can use the I-5 all the time regardless of what the chords in the right hand? seems a little odd, but I'll defintely try. Was always under the impression that the bass would change based on that the chord in the right hand was, or vice-versa....but I guess you never learn if you dont try nuttin new

That's all to you...I use 1 and 5 and sometimes the dom7th to make the chord fuller...then again if u mainly doing basslines then it may sound weird to at first....but you'll get it.. :D

Dude, this has to be the single greatest explanation of manipulating chords I've read thus far (next to a private email I received recently explaining tritone subs).

Almost forgot, DDE

What I like about your explanation is your use of the numbers. I feel that when folks use numbers next to their progressions, it's easier for me to TRANSPOSE to different keys and it helps me with modulating.

So, again when's that DVD coming out?

Be Blessed!!

I'll be looking. And, by the way, when I wrote "me" earlier, I meant to say "one" as in anyone who learns the numbers can easily transpose.

Just wanted to clarify.
