Question about playing with Drum Machines

Just curious: How many percussion parts do you add in the loops when playing with a drum machine?
For example, do you play along with a hand clap, and cymbals only, or do you add the bass drum with it or leave it out...

I wood leave out the kick and jus play wit clap, tamborine, hihats, wood block, etc...
I know for ua board players , we do want the kick, clap, hihats to play behind us if we're in a band. Makes the sound full.
