Can a Guitarist use Piano/Keyboard Chords to learn a song?
« on: April 11, 2011, 03:29:04 PM »
I am a youth choir director with no keyboardist, just an electric guitarist. It's SO much easier to find piano chords than guitar tabs for most contemporary and traditional gospel music. How can take what I find in the keyboard chord section to help my guitarist learn the song?

Guitarists should be able to read and play simple chords like E, A, D, G, etc. They might have to work harder to get flat keys and more complex chords like Cm7(b5). There are chord dictionaries in your local music stores that have the letter (piano) chords and the TAB for them...

Thanks for the info. So far I've been using a cobination of websites to figure out songs

- http://www.earnestandroline.com/Music/chords.html or this forum (to find chords)

- http://www.piano-lessons-info.com/chart-of-piano-chords.html (to find out what the symbol is for the key combos)

- www.chordbook.com (to hear the guitar chord to see if it's the right variation)

Needless to say, it's time consuming and that's IF the chords are posted at all.

For older songs that no one has posted chords for, I use a virtual keyboard at this site and just figure it out RH by ear: http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/music/piano/index.htm

I've also been using free MIDIs from the internet and accompaniment tracks from www.cbd.com

Just wondering if there's an easier way or if this is what anyone else is doing.

The first website is AWESOME! thank you thank you. I can't go to bed earlier now on the weekends.

I think the second program is a little advanced for me. I just started on piano, but eventually, I do plan to get more familiar with the guitar. Maybe my junior musician can benefit from the program.

Thanks a bunch.
