Amp Frequency Control Question
« on: October 06, 2010, 09:05:28 AM »
I was looking at the settings on my amp and I noticed the following

The low knob boosts or cuts 14 DB at 60 Hz
The Lo-Mid boosts/cuts 12 dB at 340 Hz
the Hi-Mid boosts/cuts 10 dB at 2 kHz
the High boots/cuts 15 dB at 10 kHz.

However, for a bass guitar if you are tuned standard you have the following. (I play a five string)
B about 30 Hz
E about 41 Hz
A about 55 Hz
D about 73 Hz
G about 98 Hz

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano_key_frequencies

If the bass guitar is normally less than 100 Hz why provide an equalizer to affect frequencies that are towards the very highest notes on a piano when the highest note one can fret (on a five string, 24 fret) is a G two octaves higher than the open G or about 392 hZ?

would overtones or harmonics play a part?

Where the 4th harmonic of the open G string is about 2352 hZ? Which is right around the High-mid control.

And when you slap I'm sure it can get much higher so around the 10 kHz...?

hmm interesting I compared this amp to the Eden WT800B and they provide about the same range.

The eden is a semi-parametric eq, ranging from 30 Hz to 12 kHz.

hmm interesting ...
