I hope not to sound super-spiritual but.............
« on: May 03, 2010, 03:48:57 PM »
I'm beginning to wonder if God allowed the Great Recession to take place to punish us for our crazy spending the last 2 decades which resulted in crazy debt. Maybe I'm thinking too deep but that's something I just thought about and was wondering if anyone else had this thought.  :-\

Or maybe... I dunno... just MAYBE... we just dug ourselves into a hole and God had nothing to do with it.

An interesting statement. Do you know why bad things happen in this world? Because we have the power of choice. We can either choose to love God and allow Him to bless us, or we can choose to forsake Him and give up all the protection and blessings that He has to offer.

I think that when we decide to leave God, he allows things to happen because, obviously, we don't want Him to interfere in our lives.

My thoughts exactly, I always say God ain't going to do nothing u don't want Him to do. You have a choice to make and either you do it His way or yours, but when you do it your way don't try to blame it on the devil nor on God, cause you made the choice.

my Bible says "all things are ordered/allowed by CHRIST for HIS PURPOSE(s) /GLORY " ;COLOSSIANS,as well as "things meant for evil will be turned for good":ROMANS.

If GOD is IN control,HE IS in control.HE does NOT ordain or author evil, but allows it.HE allows our "choices" just like you let your child do something that may cause some pain, because the greater lesson/benefit may be in the failure.

Proof? Read last couple chapters of REVELATION regarding the Millenial reign;if I read this correctly;there will be children born on earth during CHRIST's perfected rulership.Yet,after 1,000 years of HIS rulership, sin and rebellion will resurface for ONE final time! With all of history and consequences and the knowledge of available, history repeats.

Until the Very End;with the New Jerusalem -where NO sin will enter in or be found forever.

so how do you answer JOB? WORD says he was a good guy, calamity fell upon him repeatedly, specifically with LORD's oversight AND permission.

What was "JESUS" action that he"deserved" the Cross?  JESUS' "sin" was an absolute perfect life as GOD And MAN;at the specific mandate and plan of FATHER with complete agreement of FATHER,SON,and HOLY SPIRIT. What did JESUS sow? All I see HIM always doing was GOOD,as in "only GOD is good".

IASIAH 53 says it all.

Regarding churchy's question, you're getting too deep, in my opinion.  There are so many factors that contributed to the demise of the economy that it would be very hard to argue that this was God's work.

Re: doc's last post.  I think I understand where your'e coming from, but I don't think making a comparison to Job applies.  In a nutshell, the story of Job was an example to us of the benefit of remaining steadfast in our faith and in our pursuit of godliness.  It was far less of a story about how bad things happen to "good" people and how it happened "by permission" from God.

Agreed.

I've know so many 'church folk' that go out, and spend up tons of money on credit card, then struggle and try to say God's punishing me.  Nooooooo, when you did it to yourself

I don't think this is punishment from God.  I believe that this is something that man created on his own.  Everytime you turn around, man is trying to push God aside and show how you don't need Him.

The amazing thing is that, even though this isn't from God, these things must come to past in order for the scriptures to be fulfilled.

Industrial Revolution and the increase of technology......lol! Some would say that those two things are moving us further away from God.  :-\
