It more like a made for TV movie. Think 'Roots'.
Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

I've watched most of the first part.  It seems like this generations Roots.  I love the perspective of it tracing the life of someone who was well  educated.  Of course another big difference is the music.  Movies and TV shows back in the day often used music to set the tone.  I'm missing that so far.

Yes it was on demand. I don't know if it is still there.
Bear in mind that this girl was probably the norm. Contrary to what we are lead to believe many of the Africans brought over here in the trade were not ignorant. There was a culture where they came from and it was quite robust. This girl was just fortunate in that she came to someone who knew how to read English and was taught early on.

This is one reason why I lost so much respect for Ben Carson when he compared the AHCA to slavery...  which for me took the respect I had for him, which was was not insignificant by any means and tossed much of it right out the window.

I think that we as Americans and Americans of African descent in particular, but all Americans really need to see this history as clearly and unflinchingly as possible and. need to see it as a part of out nation's history but also from the bigger perspective of the world's history. Much of what we are dealing with across the globe today is directly related to the slave trade and it's aftermath. Most of it in fact, either directly or indirectly.
