Style

Just want to know what is style?  We hear people say all the time..u need to develop your own style.  Could this be that we like the way a song was played..and we used those certain kinds of chords all the time? Do we take a style away from a famous pianist they we adore?  Do we just develop a style from an good habit that we like while playing..and just continue to use it..thoughout life?  Sometimes it my just be a natural way we play?  I know I play the meledy alot with my left hand and my right hand is playing the chords..I didn't realize this until my friend brought this out, now when i tried to play the melody with my right hand ,i have to use this hand more.  I  started off playing this way for some reason,,could be..because i am lefted handed..I am not sure.  Thanks for your infromation..have a blessed day.

Style is like a fingerprint, it's what makes you YOU! You can emulate someone's style, but you will include your own thing into it without you knowing it, there's chords that you use that describes you as a musician.
Everybody that plays has it. Steeley Dan, a famous rock / jazz pianist has a style that is very easily reconizable, as well as B.B. King, John P. Kee, and Hezekiah Walker....You can tell their music without hearing their voice..that's stlye. Yoo described your own style to us just now...I'm left handed too, which is why I can chord with my left hand easily. Having your own style is a beautiful thing!
