chorus
« on: August 12, 2008, 03:35:26 PM »
Was playing a friends B3 today, noticed it changes from vibrato to chorus, but when you move from c1-2-3,doesn't make much difference. The deep Billy preston chorus isn't there.Said he oiled it few months ago, didn't notice the change.any ideas?

The organ I play, there is a big difference between C1 and The others. C2 And C3 are Simular. Smae thing with the Vibrato.

Also, it seemed like the C2 was stronger than The C3 for some reason.

I dont think oiling it will affect the chorus. There could be something wrong with his vibrato scanner

WELL ONE THING THAT I HAVE FOUND OUT IN MY SHORT YEARS OF PLAYING IS THAT YOU WILL NEVER FIND TWO ORGANS THAT ARE INDENTICAL. (technically of course)

YOU CAN BUY TWO B3's THAT WAS MADE IN THE SAME YEAR IN THE SAME MONTH ON THE SAME DAY BUT EVERY ORGAN HAS IT'S OWN LITTLE DIFFERENCES!!!

SO WITH THAT BEING SAID IT COULD BE THE WAY THE SCANNER IS SET OR IT COULD BE A PROBLEM WITH THE SCANNER IN ITSELF OR IT COULD BE THAT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OIL IN THE SCANNER. EVEN THOUGH THAT IT IS RECOMMENDED TO OIL THE SCANNER EVERY YEAR (if i'm not mistaken) THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THE YEARLY OILING OF THE SCANNER WILL SUFFICE FOR HOW MUCH THE SCANNER IS BEING USED. (thats why it's a recommendation! lol)

BUT THAN AGAIN I'M NOT A ORGAN TECH SO I DON'T KNOW EXACTALLY! (i just know what i know!!! lol)

I know I've read somewhere about changing the depth of the chorus/vibrato. I think (which can be a dangerous thing) you have to change out a resistor...but that's all I remember. Which one and where it's located is a mystery without looking it up again.

Vibrato scanners are susceptible to dendrite fibers. They are little "hairs" that grow on the metal parts of the scanner. It's not really been determined why they grow but heat and humidity stimulate growth of these fibers or "hairs". More info on the Hammond Wiki.

If the scanner hasn't been oiled in a while, sometimes it won't rotate properly. The scanner in my Hammond CV had this problem. The chorus and vibrato rate was really slow. I stuck some oil in the little oiling cups and within a week or so, the problem eventually fixed itself.

The chorus and vibrato don't work on the B3 at church.  It works on my A-100 but I am not a big fan of using chorus and vibrato anyway.

I couldnt live without my V1 and C1. C3 Chorus just makes it sound PHAT!!

As for Vibrato, I dont think there are too many uses for it church. I'll use it sparingly, just to be different. V1 sounds good with some settings. V2 and 3 are usually too much and make the organ sound creepy.

MAN ALL OF THE VIBRATO/CHORUS SETTINGS HAS IT'S PLACE IN CHURCH. THINK ABOUT IT, SOME OF THE MOST TRADITIONAL GOSPEL ORGANIST ONLY RELIED ON THAT HEAVY V3 VIBRATO TO CREATE THE CLASSIC SOUND EVERYONE HEARS WHEN "The Old-Heads" ARE PLAYING! (think about it with a 804200008 type of setting) lol
