I'VE BEEN GOING ABOUT THIS BASSDRUM THING ALL WRONG.

I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE GONNA LAUGH ONCE YOU READ THIS BUT I JUST HD TO POST IT.

WELL RECENTLY I JUST BOUGHT A POWERSTOKE 3 FOR MY PEARL AT CHURCH (22 kick). AND I TUNED IT AND I GOT REALLY MAD BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET THE SAME TONE THAT I WAS GETTING OUT OF MY PREVIOUS POWERSTROKE. I WAS ACTUALLY TEMPTED TO PUT THE OLD HEAD BACK ON IT AND PLAY IT UNTIL IT BREAKS. lol BUT I DECIDED I WAS GONNA BE A REAL DRUMMER AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS KILLING MY NEW HEAD. SO I WEIGHED OUT ALL OF MY OPTIONS.

#1) I DIDN'T RE-TUNE THE RESO HEAD AT ALL.
#2) I HAVE ALL OF MY LUGS AT ABOUT THE SAME TENSION. (med. low)
#3) I PUT THE FLAM PATCH IN THE SAME EXACT SPOT ON THE HEAD. AS I DID THE OLD HEAD.

BUT THEN I REALIZED THAT I ALSO BOUGHT A NEW FOOT PEDAL. AND ALONG WITH THIS FOOT PEDAL CAME A WOODEN BEATER.

PREVIOUSLY I WAS USING THE FELT SIDE OF A PEARL ELIMINATOR BEATER.

SO I SWAPED OUT THE BEATERS OF THE TWO FOOT PEDALS AND ALL OF MY PROBLEMS ARE GONE AWAY. lol

NOW I JUST HAVE TO GET THE FOOT PEDAL TO THE SAME WAY IT FELT WITH THE WOODEN BEATER. lol SO HELP ME OUT WHAT SHOULD I DO? I TRYED LOWERING AND RAISING THE HEIGHT OF THE BEATER BUT IT DIDN'T HELP THAT MUCH.

COME PROFESSIONALS. lol I NEED YOUR INPUT.

Dude, just adjust the tension of the pedal spring.  Perhaps the wooden beater has a bit more weight, which would  cause the preset spring tension to feel great 'as-is', and with a lighter beater (felt), the preset spring tension may be too much or too little to replicate the feel of the pedal when it had the wood beater installed.

WELL ACTUALLY ITS FUNNY YOU SUGGESTED THAT.

I ACTUALLY WENT TO CHURCH TONIGHT AND DECIDED TO MESS AROUND WITH DIFFERENT TENSION SETTINGS BUT IT STILL DIDN'T WORK.

I'VE ADJUSTED THE WITHDRAW OF THE PEDAL (how far back the beater goes) AND I STILL GOT NO LUCK. I'M THINKING ABOUT GOING BACK TO MY PEARL PEDAL. AND SELL MY NEWER PEDAL.

ITS ONE OF THE YAMAHA FLYING DRAGONS BUT IT CAME WITH A WOODEN BEATER.

Assuming you were using the Pearl Quad beater ("eliminator beater" as you put it), I say use the plastic side of the quad beater. You can essentially get the same attack from plastic as you can wood. The only dilemma that I could see is the fact that you have a mis-matched foot pedal. But WHO CARES!??!! as long as it sounds and feels good to you ;)
