Left handed keyboard player
« on: July 11, 2006, 06:11:30 AM »
Hi Everyone :o)

Most recently I have taken a great interest in the world of Gospel music (especially the contemporary Jazz influences of such). I have never taken much interest in gospel music, due to not having a church in the uk that shared such joy of music or the availabliliy of finding such amazing music on CD. I know it is no excuse to not be part of whole church thing... but I did go to church at one point. People were more interested in how you dressed and general idle gossip, which I found to be the theme at two different churches (that was many years ago). So I stopped going.  But very much think god is always with me... no matter where I am  ;D

However, I  wish I had the ability to make such heavenly music. However, despite the many years I have been playing music, I find it very hard to have that natural ability to scale up and down the keyboard, very much like what is shown on Ricky Drapers own website (Organ Shed 1# and Late Night Piano Shed). I think that this  is due to  being left-handed and not musically trained in that area (but have a funky left hand). I wondered if any one knew any musicians that had this issue with their playing ability, and if one can do anything to improve the ability of play in this area.

So feeling left behind and creative ability limited by my short comings, I just end up having those bad patches of seasonal composing. I just end up packing up my gear for weeks! I want to sort myself out, and enjoying music fully. Being happy with myself and life. I am 34 years of age now, so need to make a stand. I am very much interested in the Urban Worship DVDs and Morgan PJ DVD (piano). Do you think that I would gain a lot of knowledge not just of musical arrangement, but also playing techniques. Look forward to your replies.

Many thanks  :D

There are a lot of DVD's that show the technqiues to learn & play Urban & Contemporary Gospel music, although I haven't purchased the PJ Morgan DVD I have heard great reviews. Alternatively I have purchased Jamal Hartwell's DVD's from www.gospelkeyboard.com and can certainly say that they have a lot to offer.

Hope This Helps
