It is like learning a new language.  Not hard, but just needs a "system" to figure it out.

The chord symbols are above the notes.  I wish I had a piece of music paper to show you, but the chord symbols are the names of the chords, e.g.
Cdim = C diminished.  You already know the chord, but don't know what it is called.  It spells out - left hand cluster of notes - C, Eb, Gb, A

I call diminished the "Jesus Chord" because of the beautiful tension it produces.

You can find a chord chart on here - I will look for one.  But after you have found out what they are, it is easier.

The notes - right hand - are written on five lines with four spaces between the lines.
There is a keyboard guide in many of the books - I will look for one online.

I hope this helps.

ManofPraise do you want to learn how to read the chord symbols or the actual sheet?  I read the sheet.  The chord symbol is kinda like a FAKE BOOK style of reading.  If you read the sheet you can read the chord and all the fill ins and the melody.  I like reading because there is nothing to figure out unless I want to add a fill in that's not written.  But if you just want to play what's on the sheet learn the staff.  Then you can read what you see instead of just interpreting the chord symbol. There's more on the sheet than just that chord. :-)

I'm learning to play by ear but I still heavily depend on my sight reading skills.
Praise God!

I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHAT YOU MEANT. I HAVE BEEN READING SHEET MUSIC SINCE I WAS SIX AND TO ME IT IS EASY. BUT THE CHORDS ARE RATHER HARD TO REMEMBER. BUT YOU KNOW THAT OLE SAYING SHARE AND SHARE ALIKE. SO SINCE I HAVE JOINED THIS SITE THEY ARE TRULY A SHARING EXPERIENCE FOR ME.

SO HERE IS YOUR EXAMPLE:
THE RIGHT HAND: WHICH IS CALLED TREBLE CLEF. LOOKS LIKE A BIG S SIGN.
YOU HAVE FIVE LINES: FROM THE BOTTOM LINE TO THE TOP
E...G....B....D....F.... (IF BELOW THE E AND HAS A LINE IT IS C; IF NO LINE IT IS D)
THE SPACE IN BETWEEN FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP
F...A...C...E

THE LEFT HAND: WHICH IS CALLED BASS CLEF LOOKS LIKE A BACKWARDS C.
FROM BOTTOM TO TOP
G...B...D...F...A (IF ABOVE G AND HAS A LINE IT IS C; IF NOT IT IS B)
SPACE
A...C...E...G
IF YOU ARE NEW (& THIS IS WHAT I TEACH TO MY STUDENTS) YOU MAY HAVE TO WRITE THEM OUT BESIDE THE NOTES UNTIL YOU GET FAMILIAR WITH IT.
CHORDS AND SHEET MUSIC ARE THE SAME IT IS JUST READ DIFFERENT.
IF YOU NEED MORE UNDERSTANDING PLS FEEL FREE TO ASK.

GOD BLESS AND KEEP PLAYING SO THE ANGELS CAN HEAR YOU.
