I have it. Havent watched it in a while, but from what I remember, its a decent intro to playing congregational style songs, she's helpful. There may be better though. I may need to review it again.

I have that DVD.  Ethel teaches several good songs on the video, and gives you some licks as well.  You have to be able to read some to use it well though.  She gives one excellent intro that can be learned in every key and used very well.  She gives several licks that can be used in the same manner.  She has one lesson that will fit several songs that is very good.  I say again (in my case)you have to be able to read some, and be willing to put in study on what she offers.  She demonstrates what she is doing on the video, but you better be sharp.
You will learn these songs:

Amazing Grace
Yes, Lord
Can't nobody do me like Jesus/Jesus is on the main line/ Show me the way.(all the same beat)
Study war no more
He's got the whole world in his hands
Blessed assurance
When the saints go marching in
Standing in the need of prayer
What a friend we have in Jesus
Angels keep watching over me

You will learn an easy version and then a full version and a very full version of each song. I am satisfied that the course is worth the money, and it is really worth the money if one studies with a determination to learn whats offered, and transposes the licks and runs to the other keys that are often used.

I got this DVD about 3 years ago, It was too tough for me then, but back then I never understood the number system & my reading skills were poor, but I was looking at it the other day & I think I can handle it now! I think berbie has given a very good synopsis on what to expect from the DVD.

I would say that it is aimed at intermediate to advanced players, who want to understand that traditional gospel style & if you can't catch what she does on the DVD, you get transcriptions of every song in the form of 2 booklets that are helpful and clearly written in sheet music/notation form.

Check this out to see an actual clip from the DVD....Great stuff

I concur with Berbie and Casioman.  I have this DVD, and I have learned a lot.  I do recommend that you know the number system first before getting it. There's a lot of good nuggets you can apply right away too.

I love this woman

her video
that tells how long ago I bought it

her video got me started

I learned the songs on the first one
then I got video two

which to be honest was more helpful to me than video one

maybe because on the second video which I think is all included in one dvd now

it focuses on amazing grace and what a friend we have in jesus
and the devotional run

with these songs you are equipped to play many many many many songs

my playing to this day is still shaped to some extent by those early videos

out of all the ones I owned with the exception of worship extreme and maybe worship 202 by hear and play

the ethel caffie austin helped me to hold on to some jobs for real

the trick to her dvd's is that you wont or shouldnt try to master each song

she teaches each one on a basic intermediate and advanced level

so learn the stuff on the easy levels first

then in a few months come back and try to learn more

then come back in a year and learn some more

I need to buy them again

I probably could master all her moves now

I sure couldnt back then

Does that mean its worse?

its like comparing apples and oranges

ethel is strictly old school traditional

but her instruction is excellent she is a great teacher

so is pj

notice I didnt mention john

ethel breaks down some very important traditional accompaniment techniques

like stride walking bass

that bluesy barrel house type comping
