You can have free expression in any type of music if you want, and thus I guess you can say they are comparable...But Jazz is more qtrs on the meter, and to a degree crash on the 1 still feels right depending on the piece.  Reggae is more of an upbeat feel, and crashes on the 4.  This clip had many traditional reggae rythms/patterns.  I didn't really sense any real freedom...as I perceive freedom to be.  Having grown up around a lot of reggae/dancehall/soca/calypso, It all seems pretty standard to me.

Answer, there are different kinds of jazz styles. The two that would incorporate reggae are Caribbean Jazz and Fusion Jazz but can they as individuals be compared......No!

The last time I played with a Raggae band, there didn't seem to be much room to experiment.  We had a saxaphonist with us and people were complaining that the sax was making the music seem too "jazzy"

I once played with some reggae artists who would not let me move from the one drop!!!!!
