PDP X7
« on: April 15, 2008, 08:52:54 AM »
Has anyone played on the PDP X7 kits? With proper heads do they sound nice? Looking to buy an average Acoustic drumkit again :)

There alright at best. I played the kits back when they were made of Chinese Oak, and they sounded pretty good with the right head combo. Now they are made of Poplar which isn't bad but I know for sure you can find something better.

Like The Pearl Visions Fusion kits. ;)

At my local GC there was a VBX Fusion Shell pack for $630. 10,12,14, 22. It also came with a 5.5Inch Sensitone snare drum which sounds very good IMO.

Welcome back Seale!

Not sure about the X7's either. I'd say the Vision series as well.

A local church bought one and had me tune them up. They weren't bad with clear Emperors for batters and Ambassadors for reso's. The kick drum had that new Remo bass head on it. I don't know the name of that head and I am not the least bit impressed with it. They should have bought something more conventional (Emad series, EQ series,Superkick series, Powerstroke 3). The snare needs edge work right off the bat. The snare bed isn't wide or deep enough for good snare response. Overall...Would I gig with it? Probably. Would I record with it? I could probably get away with it. But for home and practice, I'd definitely get with it! The big selling point is the amount of drums in the package.

Good to see you back!

I recommend the Pearl Visions series... best sound and quality for your  buck... after that the Mapex Pro M (the 7-piece limited edition costs about the same as the X7 with much better quality wood and sound) and the Sonor 2007. The new Tama Superstar is bad either with the 20'x20" virgin kick and short stack toms... and that snare sound good.

...Sonor 2007.  Lovely kit, good sound, great price. ;)  Tama SuperStars sound good.

...Mapex M Birch is where it's at and so are the New Pearl Visions 100% Birch.  I haven't checked out the New Yamaha Birch Stage Customs or whatever they're called but I bet they're going to be noice.

...You have so many options.  I'd skip that PDP X7.  If it ain't the Chinese Oak one, forget it.

Never mind I just found it. $599 for a shell pack isn't bad at all. I want to hear one of those in real life.

The Five Star drum shops... Drums2Go has the Mapex but they don't carry Tama. Drums2Go also carries Sonor. Memphis Drum Shop has both brands. Forks Drum Closet carries all the forementioned - Nashville and Knoxville and other shops and other shops.
