Starter Set

I am wanting to get a starter set, my primary instrument is bass, but I want to piddle around with the drums...  I came across these...

I know you get what you pay for, but has anyone had any experience with a set like this?

It will probably be 6 months to a year before I make a purchase, but just kinda researching right now.

If you want new Starter kit. I would go with the Tama Rock Star Kit. It doesnt sound bad for a entry level kit. It even has fusion size toms. 10,12,14.22 kick.

Is this something that you will outgrow very soon? Will you be able to get a decent price for it when you wanna upgrade?
Consider these questions when buying gear like this.
  If I were you I'd try to save a little longer and get something pro or a least semi pro.

I'm not a drummer, so take what I say with a grain of salt  but I think this applies to all non pro music gear.  
They sell this brand at Target. I'd be leary of any music gear that I can get from Target

...no way man.  That's not good plus it looks cheap and the most important factor is that it is going to be uncomfortable to play.


...Tommy Igoe said it best on this "Getting Started" DVD.....the reason why beginners quit playing drums is because they're not "comfortable" and their set up is horribly wrong.   


...that kit would make me quit. lol  (12x10, 13x11 rack toms... )  One will end up spread in California and the other in New York.  (Far East and Far West)  Check out the pic' below..

That is NO BUENO. If you are serious about wanting to "piddle around with the drums" you need to at least invest $500-$600 on a kit. Otherwise its not really worth it. I started with a kit just like the one you are considering. Wish I hadn't it helped me develop poor technique. Stay away from it!

Thanks for the input... guys... Price wasn't really an issue... I just didn't want to invest much into something, that would probably never be my primary move... we have drummer lined up at church, and I'm the only bass player... So i am much more needed on the bass.

I will not give that set any further thought.... I will look at the Tama Rockstar Kit, like suggested... Are there any major things I should consider when selecting a kit?
