Barnaby, the problem is, you didn't relate your question well. This is a drummers forum with plenty of knowledge. We know what a fulcrum is. Your question was how to STRENGTHEN a FULCRUM. Doesn't really make sense. . .when you know what a fulcrum IS.

as JFunky stated, READ and APPLY Cherri's response. That is the best advice you are going to get on this forum.

the fulcrum for me stays quite loose. Its smaller fingers that stop it sliding about in my experiance, but its just enough to keep the stick in place.

These are my notes from the “Secret Weapons” DVD

Chapter 8: Fulcrum

1.   The point or support on which a lever pivots.
2.   An anatomical structure that acts as a hinge or a point of support.
3.   An agent through which vital powers are exercised.

The essential part of the Grip is the fulcrum. All grips and techniques rely on the fulcrum. The amount of pressure you apply should remain constant through the entire motion of a stroke. Do not squeeze and release the pressure in the stick while in motion (play). Find the sweet spot doing the Balancing exercise-by dribbling the stick with the other hand. Once you have find the sweet spot  (which is the point where the stick bounces with most economical efficiency) keep the fulcrum there.

Get this DVD, study it, absorb it and apply it.
