My suggestion would be to follow the original melody line of the song a little closer.

There were parts of the song where the melody was so far from the original I couldn't quite distinguish it.

I LOVE using dissonant/funky chords too.  You just have to pick your spots.

You sound good bro.  Keep doing what you're doing man.

It was a nice tune...  I am not sure if you wanted the keyboard part to stand on its own though.  I basically hear it as block chords accompanying your voice.  Are you playing your chords all in one position? (open, closed) or are you alternating back and forth throughout?  I could not really tell but I got the impression that you were playing octaves or octaves and fifths in the left and then a wide open voicing (1-3-5-7-9 or 3-5-7-9-11) in the right.  Jazz harmony is different than gospel harmony.  I would like to hear the melody more in the actual keyboard part OR I would like to hear more movement (not necessarily chordal), in the keys.  Jazz is about harmonization and reharmonization.  I would be interested in hearing another take of this without you singing, but with a clear melody in the right hand and a good left hand accompaniment coming from the left.  It will be a different sort of 'left brain, right brain' thinking for you...

Good luck!
