Practicing with Large Hands!!!

Hey Everyone...I have a question can someone give me some advice on something...

Here it is... I was practicing tonight and I got frustrated about something...I have very large hands and i was wondering could someone give some advice about getting comfortable in the key of C...give me baby steps...I can move around but not fluently...

I was going thru the basic progressions that T-block posted and realized this...I am comfortable in the black keys but because I have been running up and down the black notes with ease it has handicapped me from moving in the white keys fluently...

ADVICE...ANY ONE!!!

so i suggets U keep playing the keys, but try 2 play @ the edges so that U hit the right keys..
With some prac U will soon settle in & U'll find your fingers fitting in between the black keys

Hey may be this may help. You should think about playing expanded chords like 10ths, 11ths, 13ths but with a expanded fingering.

I do that sometimes. My hands aren't that big but my fingers will touch both black keys while hitting a white key. So what I also do sometimes is turn my wrist (on right hand) to the right (like a 45 degree angle) so my finger tips will be kinda sideways.

Something else that might make a difference is the size keys you're playing on. If you're playing on piano sized keys, they're slightly smaller than full size keys.

I got a question, when u sit at the keyboard, are u close or far away?

Believe it or not, the distance between you and the keyboard makes a whole lot of difference.  For people with big hands, I suggest sitting back from the keyboard so that your fingers hit the tip of the black notes.  That way, it will make it easier to play the white keys better.

For people with small hands, I suggest sitting close to the keyboard so that your fingers can hit the middle of the black keys.  That way, you want have to overstretch your fingers for the big chords and octaves.

No offense but losing weight works too. I have seen some people that are tall and overweight so they have problems with this. I differ with some of the advice. To me it depends on what you are playing at the moment of where to place your fingers. If you are chording with long fingers slide your fingers in between the black keys when in C. Also remember you have 5 fingers so use them all. Some people get locked in a certain hand position fingering. That is alright when you are starting but after you have been playing a while use all fingers.
