HELP
« on: May 25, 2006, 12:29:04 PM »
Hello, does anyone know an easy way to play songs?  I've visited earnestandroline.com but the way most of the songs are chorded, I can't move fast enough to get in all the notes there before it's time to move to the next word in the song.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The easiest way thatI know of to play songs are to get familiar with keys. Also get to know the key relatives. Generally in songs that I come across---anyone can correct me if Im wrong, but if your learn the I (root), IV(fourth), and V (fifth), you can pretty much get the song. Then after you learn that, you can add your own style into it.
Also in this method, you dont have to worry about being fast enough to get every not someone mentions or chords in a song.
Hope that helps :)

Figure out the progression(s), chord pattern(s) being played in the song then play it your way.  Also, use your ear and the rewind button on your CD player.

My advice is first listen to the song a few times, then one by one play the chords that's written down.  Keep doing that back and forth until you get an idea of how the chords are supposed to be played.

Also, breaking a song up in sections really helps with learning process.  Once you figure out a particular part of a song, keep practicing that one part until you master it, then move on to the next part.

That works for hymns and maybe your Christmas songs, but for the gospel music that's out right now, the best way is to spot progressions like 7-3-6 and 2-5-1.  That's just my opinion!!!
Real musicians play in every key!!!
