I'm having sound problems with the organ! Please help!
« on: May 31, 2005, 10:49:20 AM »
At my church we have two leslie speakers mounted up close to the ceiling  at the front of the sanctuary.  The sound from the leslies doesn't project to where the other musicians sit very well. To compensate for this, the organist usually has to play very loud for the other musicians to hear but at the same time the music is to loud for the congregation.

The sanctuary is relatively small but we have a total of 3 leslies. I think this is too many for a room that size and that they should turn two of them off. I think they should put the other one close to the organ at a lower volume setting and mic it to the house speakers where the soundman can control it. I would like to know if you guys think this would work or if there is something else we should do to solve the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What you suggested seems ok.

Even better, it might be better to have a monitor situation so the other musicians can here you.
Thanks for letting me hang with you guys!

Personally i dont belive in a miced hammond. Its not the same regardless of the type of mics you have. What i thibk you should do is put the leslie somewhere all the musicians can hear it of get a 771 model so that every 1 can hear it regardless of where they are. I kno this because i work for the Hammond organ Center in Philadelphia. Hope this helps
