Title: piano teachers
Post by: jonesl78 on May 13, 2009, 07:16:12 AM
I just start teaching my daughter, who is 3 years old, piano lessons. So far she understands the sequential make up of the piano and the location of the notes "C" and "D". Do you all have any reccomendations of books for her age and any teaching teaching tips. I try to make the lessons fun by incorporating games and I try to keep the length of the lessons to about 15 minutes.

I like what you have done. Just keep doing what your doing?
If the results are showing keep going forward

Now that she knows the basic setup of the piano teach her how to form chords

Example: C chord
C E G
1 3 5

Are you teaching from a book or your own material.

My own material, but it is very informal and subject to change because teaching a three old is very challenging. I am currently looking for games and a lesson book.

You should look into "Music Moves for Piano" by Marilyn Lowe.  Here's the website.  They have books tailored to 3 - 4 year olds, and breaks everything down to their level, where they can understand.  Here's the site. Play around with it.

Teaching kids is hassle! I was trying to teach this 5 year old kid and i got really frustrated. He just could not seem to grasp certain things. I swore to never do it again.

Little kids have little attention spans. You have to keep things moving for them...think less work and more 'play'.

For kids 5 or under, I give short 15-20 min. lessons until they mature enough to handle more time...
