I'm starting a community choir here. What experiences have you guys had? This choir will have people from different nationalities, that also speak different languages; but we'll sing mostly in English.

the thing with those are knowing who u are letting in your choir, just cause they can sing doesnt mean they need to be in a gospel choir, remember the devil was an angel at first!! it may be rocky at first but prayer, practice and God will show u the way

I had my invitation flyers printed today, and I went out to area churches to post them. I had one Pastor talking to me like I was trying to steal his members! I kept trying to explain to him that it was a community thing. He wasn't buying it and wouldn't take any of my flyers.
I felt a little disappointed at first, but then I said to myself, If it's for anyone here to join, they'll find out about it. Stealing someone's members is the furthest thing from my mind!
LOL!

Starting a community choir is somewhat a difficult but not impossiable task. Like said:

I've run two different community (or district) choirs. My experience has been to get the Pastors of the churches buy in first. Normally, most pastor see the need for everyone to "come together" as one unit. After all, when we get to heaven I don't think there will be the Missionary Baptist Section, and the COGIC section.
After the Pastors were on board, they helped me get their Minister of Music and Choir Presidents on board. This was the real key because I attended some of their choir rehearsals and they helped get their choirs involved. I picked up some musicians from this, scheduled first meeting, and let God move!
God will provide for you. I ran one in KCMO for about 4 years and it was a lot of fun and a blessing for the most part.
Good Luck.
