And I'm listening to this guy fuming and venting about "what it is to be a black man......" and so on and so forth. He's blowin' up about "rich white people" running the country and the country Jesus grew up in. And how Hillary didn't this and Hillary aen't that. And he's so glad to have a God that knows what it is to dah dah dah.
Now I'm mad >:(...........'cause here are my people being washed down into this mess - age. Pattin' him on the back an' sayin' Amen. Prob'ly got real big offerin' too! Boy I tell ya.......flesh will be flesh! now won't it?
First Point
I dare not speak of a man of God this way and after all I do have some respect for my elders. But unless he was there to see Jesus' skin color I doubt that he has the first clue what color his skin was. so every time he says that Jesus was black HE'S LYING!!!!!
Second Point
From the mouth of Jesus himself in John 19:11............
11Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Sounds like Jesus knows he's king to me. Did he ever say that he knows what it is "to be black in a country controlled by rich whites"?
Now of course being my savior he knows the struggle. But not because he was suppressed (who can suppress God?) I would argue that he knows my struggle because he's ALL KNOWING!!!! (DUH!)
And my beloved are acting like they don't know no better. I bet ev'rybody found their way to his prayer line.
If I must.....I will set things back in order the best I can.
To my understanding there are four most important things to know about Christ.
#1) He's Lord
#2) He died for me and you (with all power)
#3) He rose for me and you (with all power)
#4) He's coming back for me and you (and he will have all power)
Please no more of this Black or White Jesus thing!!!!!

Well shucks, this is too good to pass up, so I'm gonna bite!
Bruh Kell,
1. What "color" (race or ethnicity) would you suggest Jesus Christ was, while He was in the flesh?
2. Your "four most important things" are really kinda narrow-minded, in my opinion. There is so much MORE to know about Jesus Christ. Why narrow it down to only four things and call them the "most important?" If those four are indeed the "most important" does that mean that His sermons, His character, His appearance, His miracles, His ancestry, etc... are the "least" important? That statement, in general, strikes me as a "super-spiritual" kinda response that overlooks the depth of Dr. Wright's statement.
3. I have so much more to say, but.... I guess I'll just save my breath. I get the feeling if a highly educated Dr. Wright couldn't get his point across to you, surely my no-doctorate-having-self can't either. :-\

was he black like me? no.
was he white like like Jim Caviziel? no.
go do a google on the people of His region during that time.
He looks like them.
And his blood was red.

(and I'm hoping Bruh Kell follows the advice to do a google search). ;D

Well, the media has done it's job because it never should have even went THIS far. They want him to make Black folks mad as well as White. They got you Bruh!!!!!!

Don't say a thing, just back slowly out the door...
hold the door im right behind you :)

.....I tell you...I love this stuff!......Truth be told...Jesus probably looked like Osama bin Ladins twin brother. That is how everyone over there looked back then...and now too for that matter.
So some folks say....what does it matter?......Well now...lets see white America take down that Picture of one of the Bee Gee's that is the church standard......and put up Osama!.....
....There wouldnt be no church...no salvation....no TBN.....no nothing!
I am half white so dont get mad at me......all I'm sayin is that until people start facing their worse fears...they can get past them!

Well...............
1. I don't know what color he was! And I don't claim to have any idea! In fact I wonder why so many of us think it matters what color he was......why do we even weigh in with 2 cents on the subject of his race? if you can.....please answer this seriously for me?
2. In my mind, if he came to save our souls......then these are the four most important things to know about him. it doesn't go to say that his sermons and character are least or not important. And I agree that there is much much to know about Jesus....... after all he came to show us the way too. But I do have to ask what in the world difference does it make what color he was?
I also heard him say that Jesus was poor...........I beg to differ!
If you can feed thousands of families with 2 fishes and some biscuits......that's not poor!
How 'bout if you can make money come out of a fishes mouth?.........If you can do that I wanna ball like you!
Strike it up however you wont to.....That aen't the Gospel comin' out his mouf!

And further on his color. Mary was a Jew right? And so what color is God?..............hmm?!?!?!?!

Ok, if you say that you don't know what color he was, then that kinda makes your initial concern somewhat redundant right?
Plus as far as Mary being a Jew, they did have Black Jews. I went to school with a young man that was half Black/half Jewish. You would not have known if he had not told you. His mother was very light skinned as well. So the possibility of a Black Jesus is a true possibility. I don't care one way or another because whatever "color" he was, he died for you and me. So Rev. Wright can say whatever, I aint gonna trip. If Jesus was Black, what will the Klansmen say IF they get to Heaven. And that's a BIG IF! IF Jesus was White, what will the Super pro-Black folks and Black racists(yes they do exist) say IF they get to Heaven
And Uriah, whenever I see the blond Jesus I'm gonna be hearing "Staying Alive" in my head. That was hilarious. Another funny thing is Maurice Gibb bought Johnny Cash's old house here in town. My lady has actually talked to him on the phone(she set up his phone service). I'm gonna tell her she may have talked to Jesus himself. I never would have thought of that.
Bruh Kell, just know that anything else about Rev. Wright that comes out, it's not even about Rev. Wright. The entire goal is to try to hurt Sen. Obama because he is a threat to the powers that be.

Bruh Kell, just know that anything else about Rev. Wright that comes out, it's not even about Rev. Wright. The entire goal is to try to hurt Sen. Obama because he is a threat to the powers that be.
And unfortunately, this thread proves that they're accomplishing their goal. :-\ I just can't believe that folks really do buy all that stuff these campaigns put out, and I hate that as intelligent we are, we still fall for this foolishness. Then again, I truly couldn't believe there'd be one person on earth who would buy all the propaganda they put out about his being Muslim. But, I've come across more than one. :-\
It's just so sad that in a day and age like today when so much information is right at our fingertips, we are still so lazy and uninformed that we'll just accept whatever people put in front of us without THINKING.
Anyway, what you said.... that's just the bottom line. :-\ Or as we say around here: and there you have it. ;)

MOST HUMANS ARE LEMMINGS.
-
Rev. Wright's delivery(and this is based on the snippets that were played over and over and over and over, ad nauseum) was very "in yo' face", but I've heard other preachers say the same thing in a much less offensive way.
The media made a point of picking out parts that made him sound crude("Bill rode us dirty", "God bless America, God **** America").
He was preaching to his congregation! The message was for his flock within the confines of their church! I'm sure they're used to their pastor, the public is not!
It's a shame that Obama is now trying to put out fires that were intentionally started to distract him from his campaign. He has so much to offer and now his whole campaign has been way laid by something that is not even America's business. The man said he did not agree with everything that his pastor says what more can he do?
-
I just wanna know why the Popular Mechanics think Jesus had one bushy eyebrow and one tamed one? One raised eyebrow and one set eyebrow? One wide eye set high, and one normal eye set low?
And wasn't his hair supposed to be white? :-\
I mean, not that I care or anything... all I care about is that blood... but since we're on the subject, just thought I'd ask... lol :-\ :D
MOST HUMANS ARE LEMMINGS.

I guess Bruh Kell has never read Revelation 1.
Rev 1:14 His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire;
Rev 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
Brass is orangish-brown. Either his feet were dirty or his skin was orangish-brown. I tend to think the latter. According to this, he's brownish with white wooly (nappy) hair. I won't necessarily go as far as to say he was "Black", but he was definitely colored in some type of way. You have "Black" people from all over the world that aren't African. There are "Black" Indians. There are "Black" Aborigine. There are "Black" South Americans. I tend to think that at that time, there were "Black" Hebrews....at least dark colored ones.

That isn't what I meant.
The Bible doesn't imply that Jesus's hair was "woolly" or "nappy" or "curly," from what I've read. :-\

Ok. Maybe I'm reading too much into it then. It does state that it was "white like wool". Most people I know add the curly part to it too, since wool is curly. But you could be right.
;)
But then if that's the case, then people can use the "head...white like wool" part and assume he was white too.

Thank you all very much for commenting.......God Bless!!!!

Is there anybody besides me who thought he was talking about Rev. Timothy Wright?
It's probably slim to none though.

Maybe I said just a little too much.
I just really need somebody to tell me exactly what is important about Jesus' skin color.
Please help me.....I'm honest.

In all seriousness, this is my response to your inquiry.
Jesus's skin color is irrelevant to our soul's salvation. But, if you want to know what's important about Jesus's skin color, you'll have to ask God why He thought it necessary to give a revelation to John concerning Jesus's outward appearance.

Dude, that's going to be an item of debate until the end of time. I believe it comes from all races and nationalities wanting Jesus to look like them. Some supremecists(including Black) have even tried to use this rationale to make their race look more superior. There will continue to be many opinions and decipherings on what the Bible's description really means.

Well, since you're gonna PARAPHRASE the guy, I guess I have no choice but to listen to the clip and see exactly what it is he said so I can give an informed response.
Let me tell you upfront, though, I have ADD and I truly do not have the attention span to listen to lengthy clips and things... if I don't find the clip quickly and don't hear that sentence quickly, I probably won't bother at all.

The fact that a photo of Rev. Wright shaking Bill Clinton's hand at the White house should blow this whole thing out of the water and close it down.
(refer to the goose/gander thread)

There is a God! LOL! I found the clip on the first try, and he made the referenced comment within the first 15 seconds! ;D
Okay, I'm no historian, so I couldn't tell you how accurate Dr. Wright's assertion is. But, what he said was that the country and culture was controlled by the Romans who were Italian (-->European --> White) and ran everything.
Are you asserting that this is inaccurate or untruthful?
And as for the poor, black boy part... I mean.... Jesus wasn't Black American as you and I are and neither were the Romans White Americans as some of our caucasian sisters and brothers are. I don't think that's what Dr. Wright was getting at. Jesus was born and raised in the West Bank. I'm 100% certain Dr. Wright knows that. He's a highly educated man.... I think he was strictly speaking about (1) their skin color, and (2) Jesus's minority status (which is where BFBT's comment about the metaphoric nature of Dr. Wright's statement comes in). I mean, based on the information provided in the Bible, and a little basic geographical and historical information, it is more likely than not that Jesus had dark skin... not dark as in West Africa... dark as in West Bank. :-\
Furthermore, does your Bible imply that Jesus was wealthy in any way other than spiritually???? Does your Bible imply that His natural parents, Mary and Joseph, were in any way wealthy?

You almost got my point here.......I spoke in reference to that part where he said Jesus was poor. In my mind it somewhat implies that Jesus had to go without on some occasions.....which I doubt.
Well anyway to top it off......as long as my salvation hung up there on that cross I'm happy!

There lies the source of your problem, bruh. :-\

Isn't his whole reason for being here was to show us that he could do it, "like" us? If Jesus had to use his Godly powers then his whole point in coming would have been void. He came here to suffer and go through like us, without succumbing to the temptations and trials we face.
-
Furthermore, does your Bible imply that Jesus was wealthy in any way other than spiritually????
My bible does: Matthew 2:11 ?And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.?
That's how he was able to take care of himself and his disciples while they journeyed. I'm sure his parents kept that stuff safe until the right time.
-

-
I just want to see where, in the Bible, those gifts are stored/kept and used again during Jesus' ministry.
Yeah, I was a little stumped on that, too...
There's no way Jesus could've been wealthy. No way. He wouldn't be Jesus if He was.

Please listen to Reverend Wright's sermon in its entirety befor asserting a critique. It is dangerous to spew forth an assertion based on misinformation, ignorance, and cut and pasted sound bites you hear on Mainstream media shows (I hope you know which news shows I mean). Unfortunately all adults are not free, independent thinkers.
If you really were listening to Reverend Wright intelligently, you'd have discerned that he wasn't cursing America; rather he was telling his listeners that this country will surely be punished for its sins of colonianism, slavery, imperialism, preemptive wars, such as what we are currently engaged in and which taxing our citizenry( as even you will see in years to come, when many of our poor soldiers, shell shocked, and menatlly compromised, come home to an unfriendly America of no jobs, opportunities, or healthcare), and our economy ( babies of babies yet to be born eill be paying for this quagmire!). God in fact is already punishing our nation as we see it evident on the news every day.
This country is in a position to be a benevolent, peaceful nation, yet, because misinformed people like yourself either vote, or fail to exercise that right. Beacuae of that truism, Ministers such as Jeremiah Wright MUST continue to preach against the social ills and impediments in this world of sin.
Scripture does remind us that in Jesus' time those in high official positions took his words out of context and misjudged him, too. This of course is not to compare Rev. Wright to our savior -that would be reckless; rather, my gesture is to enlightenyou that what isn't politically popular, is classically frowned upon by the mass media, and it takes guts and fortitude to speak out against these things. Usually HATERS criticise those who step up to the plate. Take a crash course in modern world history before you put that stuff out.
-
"Jesus was a poor black boy raised in a country controlled by rich white people" give or take I'm paraphrasin'!
"Give or take" paraphrasing is reckless and unwise. What Rev. Wright said was that Jesus knows what it's like to be a poor black boy in a country controlled by rich white people. That is totally different than what you quoted. I do know that the bible says we have a high priest (Jesus) who can understand our feelings and struggles, and that goes for everyone; black, white, red, brown, etc. Let's keep things in their proper context.

Will the real jesus please stand up?

Yeah.
Reckless and unwise.
What he said.

Yeah, I was a little stumped on that, too...
There's no way Jesus could've been wealthy. No way. He wouldn't be Jesus if He was.
define "wealthy".
-
Someone hinted in the thread about the importance of knowing the historical reference of Jesus' appearance. Most people who have a problem with Jesus being anything but lily white are bitten with the gospel of racism. The image of a white jesus is what help to convince white people that it was ok to enslave black folk. It also made some black people accept that as truth. Thus why the concept of a jewish, black or ethnic jesus has always been frowned upon. Wright is a prophet..True prophets speak out against the establishment. They don't join it like many of our televangelist heroes and sheroes... You my brother are largely misinformed on many issues. Thank God for the blood but trust me you sound just like the slave master when you say its no way that we can no Jesus idenity. Those statements remind of when Malcolm x for got converted and the father in the jail makes such a dumb statement of not knowing what Jesus looked like!! Interesting how racial supremacy works!!! It can cloud the judgement of even the most educated...
-
define "wealthy".
having an abundant supply of money or possessions of value
(I used this one because it's closest to what I had in mind. The other definitions either related to character or said stuff like "having wealth" or "characterized by having wealth").

I suppose my anger (in the post) has caused many of you to think a misunderstanding into the situation. I never said he was Black.........I never said he was white........I never said I knew.......
MATER OF FACT I SAID IT DIDN'T MATTER AND THAT HIS SKIN COLOR WASN'T THE GOSPEL!!!!
Lemme simplify.......
The Statement: It's pretty strange for any of us to say that we know what color Jesus was.....especially being that he was mixed with Jewish and ??? (if God has a color).
The Question: What difference does it make what color he was?
ALSO:
I would argue that Wright was just trying to play the ol' "Jesus was poor and black" card t speak out against white folk. But hey........can't go by what we see right?!?!?!?!?
AND LASTLY:
I recall speaking out against focusing on his race.......did I not?
The responses I'm getting here are very much like I care what color he was. almost like I was trying to prove that I knew!
I love you all..........God bless!

Actually, Bruh Kell, I don't think there was a misunderstanding on MY part (but I can't speak for anyone else).
I was responding to the overall venom in your post.... I mean, you were surprisingly and inexplicably angry... and I was responding specifically to these statements/subjects wherein you didn't necessarily imply you knew Jesus's race, but you did certainly imply that you know Jesus isn't black:
so every time he says that Jesus was black HE'S LYING!!!!!....
The other comment you made was in response to Dr. Wright's assertion that Jesus was poor, to which you seemed to express your certainty that Jesus wasn't poor because He is King... (and as BFBT pointed out, you missed the metaphor)
Anyway, no point in rehashing the whole discussion. It's all good, and we're all entitled to our opinions. You have yours, I have mine... both are worth about a penny. ;D
Just wanted to make sure you knew that I wasn't misunderstanding what you were saying, I just disagreed.
-
Are you really implying that those gifts made Mary and Joseph (and Jesus) wealthy?
I never said Mary and Joseph was wealthy, I just mentioned those gifts to say that Jesus was not poor.
I just want to see where, in the Bible, those gifts are stored/kept and used again during Jesus' ministry.
Do u ever wonder why those disciples left their businesses to follow Jesus? They had to know that Jesus could take care of them. Think about it, would u leave a good business to follow a poor man? As for where the gifts were stored/kept, it doesn't say in the Bible because that's not really important.
There's no way Jesus could've been wealthy. No way. He wouldn't be Jesus if He was.
So, u saying that Jesus, the son of a God was poor? Why do u think the bible even mentioned the gifts that he recieved when he was born? God had those gifts in place so that Jesus would be set to accomplish His will when the time was right. Think about it!!! ;)

With all due respect, T, that is a WHOLE lot of speculation and deductive reasoning with absolutely ZERO scriptural references. This, in my opinion, is just so dangerous, and is indicative of the reason we have so many different denominations, so many people tossed about with varying winds of doctrine, so many people creating their own truths, stretching the truth, teaching others their truth... Anyway, I'm not saying Jesus was poor or rich - we'd probably argue all day about how poor "poor" really is, or how rich "rich" really is. The purpose of THIS PARTICULAR post is to say that it is my opinion that you are speculating, not stating documented facts.
But, before we even get into all that, I'll just repeat Jonathan's request for a scriptural reference, and we can take it from there.
I just want to see where, in the Bible, those gifts are stored/kept and used again during Jesus' ministry.

One other thing... I do think it's dangerous to speculate, when it comes to RIGHTLY dividing the Word of God. But, to answer your question, I think there are many possible reasons the Lord saw fit to include mention of the gifts the wise men brought to Jesus. It's possible that God wanted to show us that wise men don't worship Jesus just for what they can get, but actually come bringing gifts to Him. Wise men say "what shall I render unto God for all His benefits?" Maybe God wanted us to see the sacrifice that some made, while others were yet skeptical. Maybe God wanted us to see faith in action. Maybe they brought THOSE gifts because anything less would be unsuitable for the Savior of the world and King of Kings. Maybe God wanted us to see what sacrificial giving is all about: offering up what is valuable to you, and doing it cheerfully... not because you want something in return, but because that's what you're supposed to do.
Some theologians submit that the gifts may have been used to finance Joseph & Mary's escape to Egypt. Of course, if that's true, those gifts certainly weren't put in the bank for safe keeping to finance Jesus's ministry 30 years later. :-\
My point is that the Bible - to my knowledge - doesn't mention those gifts during Jesus's ministry, so we shouldn't declare definitively that they were used for ministry.
-
I'll toss Matthew 19:16-30 in the mix about this whole rich/poor thing.
I think it would've been hypocritical of Jesus to tell the guy to give up his wealth, if he had wealth. I don't believe that Jesus was "poor" per se, but I do believe that he didn't have a lot of money. Sheesh! He was a carpenter! He had to work for a living!

Yep, and the list goes on and on... He said it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter into heaven... :-\ Can you imagine a rich Savior telling you that you that you prooooobably won't make it in since you're so rich... LOL
For the record, though, I don't think Jesus was like, homeless-poor, or like eating-out-of-the-trash-poor, or like sleeping-on-a-park-bench-poor, or like putting-cardboard-in-the-soles-of-his-hand-me-down-shoes-poor....

Don't back peddle T... You said that Jesus possibly financed his ministry from the gifts he recieved as a babe. You also used the fact that the disciples left their businesses to follow Jesus. Jesus once declared that birds and foxes had homes but the son of man had no where to lay his head. Trust me if Jesus was rich he would've found a presidential suite to stay in like most of our constituents of today.. Jesus financed his ministry by faith. He was empowered by the holyghost to use his gift to minister(serve) to the people. People openly blessed Jesus with meals and other life sustaining blessings. When Jesus sent the disciples out two by two, he instructed them not to take anything for their journey but the basic neccessities. He also instructed that they be sustained by the people who freely opened their homes.
He told them to pronounce a blessing on their homes after they left. He also instructed them not to stay in everybody's house... Now think about the traveling side shows that ministry has become now. How does that compare to the ministry of Jesus with the 12 he commissioned and the 70 that he sent shortly thereafter. Does that mirror most of the ministries of the 21st century? LaRue hinted on the many doctrines and denominations that have been started on assumptions and not spirit led instruction. She is definetly on point. It is clear why the prosperity gospel has recieved most of the backlash that it has recieved. It was a flat out lie!!! Prosperity isn't exclusive to christians. There are many levels of prosperity that are overlooked and defined only by material things. Rev Wright is one of the FEW men of GOD who preaches in total autonomy of the status quo..... That's a real prophet in my book....

When you say "much" are you referring to "much" money and material possessions or "much" spiritual blessings?
I just don't think it's necessary for us to be so deep about all this.

You're right we shouldn't be so deep about this at all. Seems like we all got an understandin' about the subject at hand so this appears to be idle ground.

Pastor JD,
The most suprising thing to me is that we reduce the prophetic to being able to see future events. The prophetic ministry is much more than that. The prophetic ministry is also a platform for speaking out against injustice. That's even in the face of adversities not limited to government, religious affiliations and cultural beliefs. There are passages in scripture that began with son of man prophesy against. So that what makes the man a prophet in regards to the tradition of boldly speaking for the cause of God. So my book is validated.....

This is kinda new to me, FS... can you back that up?
I'll be the first to admit that I've always defined prophecy as a statement that tells (or warns) of future events. I realize that some Biblical prophets may have spoken out against injustice, but isn't their title characterized first and foremost by their gift to tell of future events?

Yeah, I get that... but, who are we to question Merriam-Webster? Aren't they, like, the authority in etymology and definitions? :-\ I mean, if they say that that's what the word means (or that that's one of the definitions of the word), isn't it just so?
I'll admit it's a bit weird for me to think of an average joe as a "prophet" just because he's a spokesperson for a cause... I mean, that makes zillions of people prophets. Heck, that makes ME a prophet! LOL! :D :D :D Sen. John Edwards is a prophet. P. Diddy is a prophet. Bono is a prophet. This just gets kinda weird...
I dunno. Maybe that was just Webster's way of secularizing the word for public use? :-\
Either way, it's kinda interesting to me.

Don't back peddle T...
How did I back peddle? I never said he was rich, I just said he wasn't poor. And yes, I do believe he used those gifts he had as a baby to help finance his ministry.
Now, the bible does say he became poor so that we could be rich, or something like that. So, that means that at one time he was not poor, that is the time I am talking about. He was not poor his whole life. Does that make more sense?

Now, the bible does say he became poor so that we could be rich, or something like that. So, that means that at one time he was not poor, that is the time I am talking about. He was not poor his whole life. Does that make more sense?
Doesn't it also say he became "sin" too? (2 COR 5:21)

Speaking of which, you never did provide a scriptural basis for that belief of yours...

Either way, it's kinda interesting to me.
just because a person is a prophet they can still be ungodly. According to the 4th definition.

Pastor JD,
The most suprising thing to me is that we reduce the prophetic to being able to see future events.
I was looking more so at definition 1 & 2 from Sjons list moreso than the speaking of the future.

You're making my point for me. ;) :D

Nah, not really.
Even that point doesn't negate the fact that Webster's definition substantiated FS's assertion that Dr. Wright is a prophet. Sure, it may be weird to think of Snoop Dogg and Angelina Jolie as prophets, but according to Webster, they are. :-\
Weird or not, it is what it is.
But, I still wouldn't hesitate to leave that definition out for spiritual or religious purposes. Even though it's been proven to be an accurate definition, it just doesn't work for me. :-\

No, really. :D
Because, I don't live according to Webster. 8)
And, neither would I.

Maybe I should have expressed ealier that it is a personal belief, LOL.

Okay, fair enough... now, is that personal belief based on anything? How did you come to hold such a belief?

Just based on that fact that it was mentioned. I wonder where it went and it makes sense to me that i was probably used for his ministry, or at least part of his ministry. I understand if no one else shares my views, I'm usually the odd duck.
