Title: Roland mks-20 module
Post by: B3Organist_007 on March 12, 2008, 10:57:20 PM
I know that these modules are not made anymore, but are there any keyboards (hardware or software) that have those piano sounds (or close replicates) of the mks-20 module?

dude roland produced two modules with that sound, the mks 20 and the p 330! i wouldn't pay 350 for a mks 20 because you can get the p 330 for 100-150 bucks! and if your real lucky you can run across the reason refll for the mks 20 for free!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an MKS-20 and I love it.

The "dynostrait" patch on yamaha's motif and S90 lines are pretty close to the MKS-20's E. Piano 2 patch.  When I first recorded my "O Give Thanks" clip on youtube, I used Dynostrait.  When I recorded the instructional, I used my MKS-20.  You can check out my vids to compare the two.

I have Reason 3.0...I'll have to look into that.

Thanks everybody for your input.  How about Kurzweil pianos.  Are they just as good as an Mks-20?

thanks. I do like the sound of that piano.

So they used the Dynostrait on the original?

I can never really find songs that use that sound well.

No, they used the E. Piano 2 patch on the mks-20 on the recording.  I used Dynostrait on my first youtube clip playing the song.

On Donnie McClurklin's Live in London Album, is that sound on track 13 (We Fall Down reprise/altar call) from an Mks-20? It sounds like some kind of Electric Piano (I think?).

LOL not Korg!

<------------Yamaha... is my favorite, esp the Power Grand patch (S90ES pianos are a very close second)

there's a time and place for an XP-80, MKS-20, etc (Kevin Bond playing for Marvin Sapp)

My music 'mentor' & teacher loves his XP-80 to death even though we get him about it!

(im not trying to put u down, under13, or be disagreeable- maybe i lost some of my salvation when u said it the best ever ;D didnt mean 2 offend u if i did)

The Power Grand is nice...I have a motif 7 as well.  It sounds better to me when I play it midi'ed to my S90ES as the controller.

MKS-20's piano sounds are cool..not realistic...but I love it.

I tried that at a service last nite with a Roland digital piano (KR-177 :() strings and Piano 1 w/o chorus from my laptop and man...that was crazy! So I can imagine when I used it with the RD! As a matter of fact, I have rehearsal tonight with the RD so I going to try it out from the laptop. I send off my payment today so I am looking for it next week.

I need to get a 61 key midi controller. I have a 49 and a 88 but that 88 is heavy sometimes LOL! I should have that by June.

You're gonna make me by those files from precision sounds.  I would love to be able to have the MKS20 on my laptop so I don't always have to carry it around.  But a lot of times I'm running click tracks from my laptop so it's good to have the MKS anyway...

Don't get the oxygen 61...it isn't velocity sensitive.  I like it though.  I use it for my native B4 software.  It has 9 sliders so it's perfect.

Kurzweil Pianos are ok. I play a Kurzweil PC1x at church. It sounds great, but I prefer roland/yamaha pianos. What pianos do you guys use for the MKS 20? I just got a P 330 and wanted to know if they have similar sounds.

How do sound libraries work?  Can you go out and buy a sound library (i.e Motif, Kurzweil, etc) and upload it into any software synth/sampler and be able to control that sound with a keyboard controller?
