Title: This is why Weckl will always be one of the greats.
Post by: mordecai on September 12, 2007, 12:08:39 AM
Most of us have been influenced in someway by Dave. Check out is solo in this segment from the early 90's. The part that amazes me most is around the 7:05 mark. His "ghost note type" fills are ridiculous. Weckl was doing stuff like this 20 years ago. He's nasty

Weckl is cool....

But those "ghost not type" fills are just variations of the 5, 7, and 9 stroke rolls.  Nothing that you cant do.

Yep.  I need to see this dude Live.  I've heard too many stories and I just want to experience a Dave Weckl Clinic and see the Ghost Notes with my own two eyes and glasses. LOL

A Customs aint where it is.  I know that the A Customs are the "flavor of the month" on the board...  Not too many that I have run across (including my 17" A Custom Fast Crash that I own) float my boat long-term.  I will say that the 12" and 13" A Custom Mastersounds are mighty hot.

I love the Sabian HHX cymbal line.....smooth as heck...very musical to my ears...I never really digged the A customs...GB

I love My Fast Crash But I think that I might give up all my A Customs because they don't float my boat as far a sound either... Love the Hats though.. ;) Im looking into the AAX line Traditional Finish... I don't like the Brilliant Finish AAX's (Too Clangy)

I like the 18" AAX Studio Crash in B.F.  I play the 16" AAX Studio Crash in the N.F.  The 16" AAX St. Cr. in B.F. sounds funny. IMHO.  That's why the Five Star store down here in O-Town only carry the AAX Line crashes in the N.F.

  N.F. = Natural Finish

  B.F. = Brilliant Finish

It really doesn't matter if I learn how to do it at all, or anyone as a matter of fact. It's just the way in which he does it with such finesse a lot of us who can do that wouldn't be able to replicate the "touch" which Weckl uses. The man is nice and very inventive....who would have thought of that combination of ghost notes on their own in that way?

Meh, They sounded good then, but you have to hunt them down like Osama Bin Laden to get a good sounding cymbal!

LOL....and what a clinic to go to.  Dave plays with a lot of emotion and energy.  I like that.  He's passionate about his playing.  Ask Chris Coleman.....he had to say it on his DVD.

Weckl played on a Black Oak Custom kit. They have it for sale at my drum shop for $1500. He even signed the inside of the shells....Man am I tempted.

E-R can't have an Oak kit at his church....that would be disasterous. (sp?)

That would cause the Acoustic Guitar player to leave the church along with many members.

Losing an Acoustic Guitar player would be of no consequence. When you're white, they come a dime a dozen. As far as volume is concerned, I play with Rutes, remember?  ;)

Very true man, very true....but the one yall lost had that special "Kumba-ya ingredient."  Extra Lean White with brocolii (sp?) and special smooth, melty cheese. LOL  His strumming was very graceful.  Everytime he strummed, White Doves would fly into the clear blue sky.  Angels would jump from cloud to cloud.  The Sun would show it's rays like in the cartoons.

The new guy that's trying out is into Dave Matthews and the church is a bit upset but the Youth think he's cool. :-\ ;D ;D ;D

Dude, Tacos are not a Puerto Rican food and you know that and yes, you all do sing a lot of Spanish songs......Saturday Evenings in the back of the church by the camp fire.  Now, go home and tell your wife to make me some enchiladas.  I heard she makes the best ones in New Mexico. ;D

LMBO. Camp fire, outside of church? Maybe in Florida, thats against city ordinance over here. I was trying to speak BBD's language. He has the common misconception that Taco's are the food of choice for any and all Spanish speaking people. lol.

You Puerto Ricans and your dialect. lol. It amazes me how much difference there is with the words that can be used in Spanish. A honduranian enchilada is what a New Mexican would consider a Tostada. Chicken Enchiladas is definitely a New Mexican dish. Tijuana Flat? Haven't heard of that. Probably known as a different name over here. What about Pupusa's?

Sorry Sjon.  ;D ;D
