Title: DO YOU THINK......
Post by: sjonathan02 on October 22, 2006, 10:47:21 AM
that P&W leaders or MOMs can modulate a song too far?

I can understand being the Spirit of worship or praise, but can't enough be enough? I mean, while you may be able to hit that note, what about the folks in the congregation who can't? Are they supposed to just sit and watch, I mean worship?

I was just wondering.

I think you can, there's a point where it becomes ridiculous.  I've seen where directors even go up too many times for the choir, and half the choir is not even singing any more.  You'd think they'd realize that in practice.

Exactly. Every song (and choir) has its breaking point. I don't care what kind of range you have. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.  ;)

This is something that I have to constantly deal with 'cause I sing in a high-tenor range for a guy...not quite Israel Houghton-high but close.
The ladies get upset with me sometimes...the men don't want nothing to do with me and they look at me funny...what's a man to do?!  ;D

It is funny though when you see a brother standing in the soprano or alto section and not near the males in the choir. lol We have a brother at my church that sings alto. He gets aggrevating sometimes though because he sing over all the altos. I hate when people in certain section sing over everybody else.

Well don't listen to the Tenors @ my church.  8)

I play mine off by standing next to the altos or sopranos though.  ;)

Uh, so what are you trying to say????  ?/?

Don't try to squash MY gift from the Lord.  >:( >:(   ;D :D ;D :D

I know, I know. But, I try my best to blend. No really, I do. Not my fault folks are afraid to sing out to the Lord and edify God's people.

Most people are showing off very few are just trying too hard. Its not different than a guitar player blasting his guitar in the band.

 ;D  Self-blast, NEVER!!  ;D

Actually, I used to think this way at my old church. I've always felt like I've need to hold back (for whatever reason), but just recently at my new church, they just put a microphone in my hands and now want me in the front row.........always.  :o ?/? :o ;D  I guess the Lord likes what I do or at the very least, my MoM   ;) ;D

Thank you, Lord!

If you go up more than 3 or 4, that is way too much, especially if you start out in a high key.  There was a song I heard, I believe it was either Vickie Winans or Beverly Crawford, that modulated 10 times.  I was bored by the 5th one.

Yes they can! At my former church love the MOM but he would have us in the rafters!  Sopranos singing high high HIGh and alto singing high high and tenors soundling like sopranos ;D we could do it for a while but then you start getting people dropping out and switching to something more comfortable.

It was fun but let me live!  LET ME LIVE lol ;D

We had a guy come to our church and do our PT like that.  He took them up about six or seven times, left them up there and dropped down an octave in the same key (I think that's right).  Anyway, the PT looked like they wanted to stomp him, but didn't have the breath.   :D

When I saw this post, this is the first artist I thought of.  Kurt Carr came in a close second.

I might switch the two. More like a 1a & 1b.  :D

How 'bout Hezekiah? He might not take it to a range that we can't touch, but sometimes he does get boring...

I think we take it too far sometimes.  Yall remember "Let God Arise and My Enemies Be Scattered"?  I've seen that song take out the best.  Faces red, sweat pouring down, fake smiles but MAAAAAAAD :D.  Then try to sing another song.  That's bad man.

I might be old school but you should have the common sense to change the recording of songs to fit the needs of your house of worship.

If you have a "singing Pastor" with a "singing congregation" GO FOR IT!

If you have a "word Pastor" with a "watch you worship cogregation" don't do all of that...

Modulating 12 times is TOOO much...

Vickie Winans, Judith McAllister, James Hall etc...

They don't record the songs with your congregational limits/musician limits/choir limits in mind for you to minister on Sundays, they record the songs to shock and awe the audience at their "CONCERT".
