As nearly appointed youth director I have been thinking about conducting some basic etiquette for young girls in my department.
Do you think this is appropriate?. I remember older chuch members correcting me when I did wrong in church with a word or constructive critism, however I learned etiquette from a social group, debutante, and my parents.

yes, yes and yes. Our young ladies need some guidance from somewhere and school isn't going to give it to them unless they come into a teacher like me who pulls no punches.

I most surely think it is. At my church, we did just that. We have the Girls Mission Auxilory. Our sponsers would come up with programs for us and I really enjoyed the etiquette.

WHILE YOU ARE AT IT! PLEASE TACKLE THE MOST PRESSING ISSUE, ABSTAINING FROM PRE-MARITAL SEX! AND THE OBLIGATIONS OF REARING A CHILD ALONE! WHICH IS NOT WHAT GOD INTENDED. A GREAT ORGANIZATION TO WORK WITH IS ALSO PROMISE KEEPERS/TRUE LOVE WAITS! THE GIRLS GET PROMISE RINGS (THEY REALLY LIKE THAT)

I would say with out a doubt-YES!. . .BUT NOT BY YOU, because if you are as young as they are, they may not accept guidance from you. Try to enlist the aid of someone who is not a part of their group, slightly older and a good example of what you're trying to convey. People tend to respect outside presenters/clinicans and may be more inclined to put into prractice what is taught. Peace

Good point jayjay.....bring in someone who can vibe with them, but at the same time can be respected. Also make sure that the things that are being taught in the church also are being practiced at home, otherwise it's defeating the purpose

I forgot....I came in here to respond to the post!
That was one effective ministry that was in place at my former church.
Some of the focal points of emphasis were:
How young ladies should receive/give "Holy Hugs" specifically to men, as greeters and ushers
Proper ways to walk, sit, appropriate undergarments, how to hold a fork; etc.
Balanced with the Gospel and other areas of ministry that would make them productive and successful, -- -- ABSOLUTELY

I'll put it like this -- I didn't need supernatural intervention -- to stop me! But we have a tendency to make common sense choices, spiritual, or Christianistic (ooh)
Now would you go study, TIME IS RUNNIN' OUT you know you got 4000 definitions to ace :)

YES!! YES!! YES!! I wish someone would just teach some basic manners to some of the young girls at our church. Belching out loud and other means of getting rid of "gas" should not be done in public places. Yes, I know girls that do this, and it is very embarrassing to me, and certainly is not comely to a young "lady"--I use that term lightly as real ladies don't do such things in public.

I agree with that... yes it is the place to teach etiquette.. Young men and women need to be shown how to live as men and women for Christ...The fact that I am ghetto as I'onno what would prove your point... ;)
My church did an etiquette class on table manners, and speech classes. It was a wonderful thing. Kids today don't exhibit good manners, or consideration, or respect for others. they don't know how to speak to adults or authoritative figures... There are children in a church that I used to go to that used profane language... Just up and start cursing....
my neice was sitting with them one Sunday and said 'Hell naw!'
My blood pressure went up at that moment, and I prayed 'Lawd, don't make me have a stroke before I get to her, please...'
I took a hymnal, asked her to come to the bathroom with me, and I SHOWED HER WHAT I WAS WORKIN WITH!!! Child abuse my eye... It has been told to me too many times by my elders that kids would be whipped by the neighbor, the mailman, the gardener, and then when their parents found out, they get it from mama and daddy...
Now ya gets SHOT! I am 25 years old, and because of my above story about my neice, I see why the Lord hasn't blessed me with children...lol...
I digress, Yes, etiquette shall be taught in the chu'ch.

MOST DEFINATELY YES!!!! ESPECIALLY TO THE YOUTH. FOR IN OUR CURRENT DAY AND TIMES THE YOUTH NEEDS A FIRM FOUNDATION FOR LEARNING. SO MANY MIXED MESSAGES IN THE WORLD AND THE CHURCH (I WOULD SAY) HAS THAT AS AN OBLIGATION TO TEACH THEM THE RIGHT WAY TO LIVE. I KNOW WHEN I WAS GROWING UP I WENT TO "PURITY CLASS" IN MY TEENAGE YEARS. AND THOSE CLASSES REALLY HAD A PROFOUND IMPACT ON MY LIVING TODAY.

Can anyone give me some good resources to use?

I say do an internet search....but, first...find Scriptures to back up what is being taught....

Yes, this is a wise answer and right. Bishop Cole

Don't know about everyone else... but our little round the way church is the place where we were taught to "train up a child", that means with knowledge and relationships with God, and with mankind. We should all be tryin' to teach ettiquette (sp?) to our kids and role model it to them as well. If we don't teach them not to act ignant who will? I can empathize with the story about the cussin' in church. I have had members of my youth group cuss from the choir loft! Believe me I wanted to drag them out and whoop them! But I left it to they mamas... the kids are just repeating what they are around. But did I have to pray for patience and some deaf ears in the congrigation then! I had to laugh about the whoopin's by the mailman, the neighbor! That's exactly what happens in my neighborhood :) Plus, we have like 5 around the way churches within like 3 blocks of our home. So if my kids act wrong, they get it from EVERYONE from all 5 churches, and all the family members :) Yeah, I don't have to much trouble with my kids thank you Jesus! ANYWAY... an ettiquette class is a wonderful idea! Church families should do more classes like that, single-family classes, how to buy a home, and then how to maintain it, how to apply to college,to get scholorships... everything. We as Christians are often so busy stabbing eachother's backs that we don't take the time to watch out for eachother's backs. Off the soap box now! Be Blessed! ;D ;D

Yes I believe it should be taught at the church. Who else is teaching it? They certainly are not learning it at school. Anytime girls come to church with shirts that say "its a hard knock life" or "cutie" on the booty they need some help!! The mothers in our church are getting back to doing this as well and I look forward to being corrected otherwise how I know if my undies be showing.
And u know some of these people be shouting and showing they undies! Bending over and the blessing overflow! Mother Hall at our church would have to wrapped up around the waist and the neck lol! ;D

You know I've been noticing a lot of cleavage at church lately. Not to mention clothes that don't fit, foul language, flip attitudes, not just chewing but POPPING gum, walking while the preacher is up, AND IF I SEE ONE MORE PAIR OF DRAWLS...........
I've escaped the point.
Yes it needs to be taught in the church. SCHOOL AND T.V. IS WHERE THEY ARE LEARNING ALL THAT OTHER STUFF!
By the way when did the underwear thign become fashionable? ESPECIALLY 4 THE YOUNG LADIES!
