Title: diminished scales
Post by: djgroovin on December 23, 2005, 01:50:17 PM
Other than over a diminished chord.  When would it be appropriate to solo using one of the diminshed scales.  I've been working with them but I just can't seem to get it to sound quite right.

Thanks for the reply,

I've been to that site...I was kinda looking for an applicaiton of the theory.  I just can't seem to find where to use the dimished sound.

Just to let you know,

Of course, you would want to use the diminished scale over a diminished chord. However, if you want to be a little daring, you can play it over a dominant seventh chord to go "outside" the progression. It may sound a little off to some people, but it will work. A lot of jazz players do this very frequently.
