Xaphoon Sax
« on: June 07, 2013, 02:28:32 PM »
Is the fingering the same as an alto sax on these? I wonder if this is a cheap way to learn sax if you arent real serious. :)
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

Looks like a glorified Recorder with a reed -

OTOH, it is in C, so no transposing needed...

That is kinda hot though if you don't want to take your sax out. I want to know if the fingering is the same seeing father's day is coming up. ;D

"The xaphoon has nine tone holes: eight holes in front, and one hole in back for the left thumb, superficially resembling those of a recorder. The xaphoon's fingerings, however, are significantly different from those of either a saxophone or recorder."
"The xaphoon is similar to the chalumeau, a European keyless single-reed instrument that was the ancestor of the clarinet, and has a comparable range. Although it has a complete chromatic scale, the maker considers it a primarily diatonic instrument, capable of playing well in a small number of keys."

"HOW DIFFERENT IS THE FINGERING FROM THAT OF A RECORDER?
The two are very similar. When playing a C scale the fingering is pretty much the same until you get to the B and Bb, which are different. The concept of an octave hole is gone too; instead the thumb hole in the rear is just another hole to help play a continuous scale. Click Here to see a fingering chart."
