Guilty.
Speaking as one who was a non-musician for nearly 60 years, I will comment that we really believed both peeves to be true. It was thought that if a musician didn't play for a singer, they were just being rude, cute or just uncooperative. The truth of the matter is that some musicians are just that, but many are not. After I learned to play and became more involved with musicians, I discovered that many just felt uncomfortable playing off the cuff with singers, even though they always did it very well. Some who could read music very well had trouble playing songs without music. There were a lot of reasons why a person wouldn't play off the cuff, or be reluctant to, and I just wasn't aware of it. Many are still not aware. I think there will always be those who feel like I did.
I also thought a musician whom I perceived to be a good musician would be able to play a song on Sunday if I made a request on Saturday. I was very guilty on both counts. Now I am guilty of only one. Even after I learned to play, and I knew that I couldn't get a difficult song(or most new songs)together overnight, I thought that the other musicians could. I couldn't/can't believe that they would have as much of a problem with that as I have.
