If you are talking about how to voice the chords for horn players, I would recommend reading some of the many arranging books out there. Berklee Press has a really good book called Arranging for the Big Band. It's generally about arranging for jazz band, but many of the principles could be used in a gospel setting. Especially, when you think of using drop - 2 or drop - 4 voincings, using upper structures, etc. This could be a real tool. Also, listen to many recordings as possible. A lot of the John P. Kee stuff makes use of horn sections. Listen.
