Battling Musicians

Im listening to some old footage of another musician and I playing. We sound a mess. :D Too much going on. Have you ever felt like you were in a battle with the organist or keyboardist?

Looking back I think I did myself a disservice. I did not get out much so I may have stunted my growth as a musician. I did not feel like battling in the house of the Lord although a few times I may have gotten in the flesh and played what ever I felt like. :D As I listen to some of our old recordings we sound good at times but there was a lot going on.

Every now and then I get in that situation. Usually I just back off and let the other dude get his shine on. I don't have much of an ego when it comes to music. I'm all about things flowing and if that means me laying back, I will.

Yep, been there. Just let the other person play on. Sometimes I wonder what would've happened if I told him that he was playing too much.

Yep, this happened to me today you know where the organist started competing with me I wasn't but he was and he was playing all kind of stuff, going runs you name it. I mean really doing that type of stuff all in my face. But me being the passive one I ignored it. But why does an organist see that if a guy is good guitar player they wanna compete against him cause he's really that good? Anyway, what had happened at the end of the service I played a song for the offering which the organist asked me to play something and I did and we jam and everybody enjoyed it. So I got a lot of praise from people, anyway but all glory and honor belongs to Jesus Christ who gifted me to play guitar.

I think this is a problem a lot of immature musicians go through.  As you get more mature ( notice I said mature and not older, there is a difference),   you realize that typically  you can always create space in a song  so that another instrument  can breathe.
