Drop 2 Voicing

I was wondering if anyone knows how to use or form drop 2 chord voicing if so I need help and how to apply it

Guitar players and bass players sometimes use drop D tuning. (not needed on a 5 string bass)

Ahhh, so this is a guitar technique. I did a search and the concept of the drop 2 chord isn't that hard. It's just taking the next to last note of the chord and dropping it to the bottom. If you look at the chord on sheet music, it would be the second note from the top, hence the name "drop 2". Example:

CM7 = C-E-G-B

To make this chord a drop 2 voicing, take the G and move it to the bottom

CM7 drop 2 voicing: G-C-E-B

Fairly simple concept, not sure how useful it will be for keyboardists tho. Will have to play around with this some more.

People using drop D tuning on a guitar can easily play power chords on the two strings nearest your chin.  I don't know how that translates to a keyboard, but maybe it can.  On the open strings on the guitar, you would be playing a D and an A together(strumming the two strings). You can go up the fret board like that.  A D and an A on the keyboard is an interval of a 5th(a D chord minus the 3rd).  They might not be used in the same way, though.

This is my first time hearing of this drop 2 voicing.  I'll have to experiment with it to see if it may be of any use.

It's basically just adding another chord voicing to your playing. If you like the voicing, then you can use it anytime.

As far as realizing it to be a "drop 2" chord, it's only usefulness is if you're reading sheet music.

This was used a lot in old jazz..Very common back then.

WOW, I actually use the dim7 drop 2 voicing and had no idea it was called that. How about that, you learn something new every day.
