Learning the key's is a journey
« on: November 02, 2012, 12:43:51 AM »
I'm in the process of learning the keys. I put in my time everyday about one to two hours. I have a family and a life, but I want to learn the keys. Some times I find myself up until one or two in the morning practicing. Man I tell you some times It gets frustrating, overwhelming, and tired at the same time. The process seems slow and sometimes I feel like giving up, but I keep pushing myself to go further. I just would like to find out from you season players if there's light at the end of the tunnel. Is this something a lot of players go through. Please pray for me!  ?/?

Learning the keys is a journey, timbass, but if you practice 1 or 2 hours a day and have the proper direction in your practice, you will almost certainly make the trip.  Note proper direction.  Personally, I think that a person who practiced 1 or 2 hours a day as a true and sure thing would have a hard time not succeeding.  The trip would seem arduous and slow and you would think you weren't progressing at all sometimes but you would be.

Be aware that sometimes progress comes in sudden bursts.  You practice something for a while and you can't get it, and suddenly after you've almost given up, voila, it's under your fingers.

Being led by a teacher at first, or a friend who has made the journey so that your practice will be proper helps, but many do it on their own.

I'm willing to bet that this is what ALL musicians go through, not just piano players. Fortunately, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You can listen to CDs, look at youtube videos, even look at the chords posts right here on LGM to see the results that hard work can produce. I've been at this over 10 years and sometimes I still feel like a newbie. Don't quit man, it only gets better from here!

Real musicians play in every key!!!
