Not sure about Corey.

I want to respond to that "korg finally stepped to Motif" comment so bad.  But I'll pass this time.  LOL.  :-X

Glad you enjoyed it though.

I think I'd still go with the motif. Korg's interface is very confusing and annoying and their weighted keys never feel as good as the motif's. I'd like to hear that piano sound though.

As for Cory, he seems to be really doing his thing this year. His new CD is really good. I think I may go hear him play this Sunday...

I think if the Korg interface is confusing, you just may have to spend a little more time with it.  I think it's tons more user friendly than the Motif... but each to their own.  I think the Kronos is in another league from anything available right now...

the motif is beastly too, but .... just not in the same league.

Apex, is this an entirely new unit, or a download and addition to the old unit?(like the Yamaha XF is different from the yamaha XS) Is there a price increase for the new unit?

no it's not entirely new.  it is exactly the same.  the only difference is the have replaced the 30GB SSD drive with a 62GB SSD drive and it comes with 3GB of RAM standard.  It also comes preloaded with the new 2.0 OS that allows user sample streaming (from the SSD) which allows quite a bit more sample data to be loaded at any one time.  it also allows network connectivity (via a USB wifi adapter) to transfer data between the keyboard and a network (drives, etc...)

oh yeah, and it has a red X on the hardware... which is pretty cool.

There was a price increase too.

BOOOOOOOOO  :D

Speak your mind. LOL

You must be a die hard Korg fan. I know that there were some of you left. IMO Korg has been hitting and missing since the Triton Extreme.

Roland's Fantom series was able to remain relevant. To me they are awesome (I own one) They just look ugly on stage. lol

The Yamaha Motif was basically the Pro Tools of keyboards. They were and still are everywhere. The weighed action is incredible, the interface is easy when you get used to it and they look real cool on stage.

However, the Kronos (while the GUI) may take some time to get used to (if you are acustomed to the yamaha green screen) seems to have all of its bases covered. Korg IMO has always had the coolest programs/sounds hands down. Thats why the Tritons are still a gigging musicians favorite.

The Korg sequencer was very easy to adapt to and much more fun to use while composing. Also Korg and Roland utilize the stick for pitch bending unlike the Rollers used by Yamaha and Kruzweil.

I think the Motif has finally met its match. A lot of people are replacing their XS and XF's with the Kronos.

BOOOOOOOOO  :D

Speak your mind. LOL

Sorry, but the last time I spoke my mind, of the senior members (moderators) on this site threatened to have me thrown off the site because my opinion was different than his, and he felt that my opinion degraded his gear.... I didn't come back on the site for quite a while after that... So I'll just keep that part of my opinion to myself.

You must be a die hard Korg fan. I know that there were some of you left. IMO Korg has been hitting and missing since the Triton Extreme.

I am a diehard music tech fan.  I love em all in some form or another.  You have to give credit where it's due though... and the Kronos deserves TONS of credit... just my two cents and my honest opinion.  "hitting and missing"  c'mon, you've got to be kidding me, the m3 was a beast in its own right.  I'm SOOO serious.

Roland's Fantom series was able to remain relevant. To me they are awesome (I own one) They just look ugly on stage. lol

Which Fantom do you own?  I had the Fantom G and I do miss some of it's capabilities (if I ever get the chance to buy one again, I will do it in a heartbeat (it will have to have an outstanding price though....

The Yamaha Motif was basically the Pro Tools of keyboards. They were and still are everywhere. The weighed action is incredible, the interface is easy when you get used to it and they look real cool on stage.

PROTOOLS in that it was the industry standard and they were everywhere... and once you get used to something (DAW or keyboard) it's very hard to change... but I feel that Yamaha has sucked the Motif brand completely dry.  no need to go into details there...

However, the Kronos (while the GUI) may take some time to get used to (if you are acustomed to the yamaha green screen) seems to have all of its bases covered. Korg IMO has always had the coolest programs/sounds hands down. Thats why the Tritons are still a gigging musicians favorite.

Yes the Kronos covers all the bases very well... I can't think of one thing that it doesn't excel at... well maybe guitars, but that's one of the harder instruments to emulate, motif does it ok, but some consider that it's still lacking

The Korg sequencer was very easy to adapt to and much more fun to use while composing. Also Korg and Roland utilize the stick for pitch bending unlike the Rollers used by Yamaha and Kruzweil.

one of my very close musician friends has a Korg in his setup primarily for the pitchbend option that it has... completely different from Yamaha.  This something that I don't see them changing at all.  It's a staple to them.  And would change their somewhat conservative personality....  If yamaha brings out a keyboard with a real joystick... I'm sure the world is going to be like.... WHAT!!?!?!?!?!? LOL

I think the Motif has finally met its match. A lot of people are replacing their XS and XF's with the Kronos.

I wouldn't say finally, It could very well have been considered with the XS vs m3 comparios.... but I would say, it's finally going to lose some of it's market... and if not that, the Kronos will be heavily considered in a direct purchase comparison.  I think the creative possibilities are far greater on the OUT THE BOX Kronos... vs the OUT THE BOX motif XF.  I love pattern mode and that has opened a new world for me as far as playing live and using the patterns as backing tracks (main reason I own a motif xf), but still... I believe the Kronos is the hands down winner.

The M3 was cool, and was a beast. The Horns alone were crazy to me. But it was still a hit and miss to me meaning it did not really put enough fire or interest in the die hards to make them want to leave their Motifs at home. And lets not get started on the Oasys which is an extrememly incredible instrument but far out of most our price ranges. Personally, I loved the look of the M3. The  polished silver, wooden sides and Moog like panel, NICE!  I have never lost faith in Korg. I have been waiting on Korg to come back with a strong undeniable solution to the Motif and they did it with the Kronos.

I agree, Yamaha has sucked the Motif Brand and they may have to go back to the drawing boards.

I have a Fantom X7.

And finally I agree with your closing statement 100%. 8)

Im really thinking about getting a Kronos by the years end.

Before you buy a Kronos, read the Korg Forums.  Before you buy a used Kronos, read them twice.

This would apply with ANY synth.  No one should make any investment of this magnitude without some extensive research first.  If you are buying used...  that just magnifies the obvious about doing your homework.  NOT JUST A KRONOS.

I'm a huge Motif fan. That's all I've ever owned and wanted. I went and played a Kronos today. If I had 3500 bucks I would've walked out with one!

The pianos are amazing! Excellent strings and leads! The EP's were slightly lacking but I didn't get to explore them deeply. I'm sure with a little tweaking they would sound just as good as the pianos.

As a guy who grew up playing an acoustic piano his whole life I have to say the Kronos has the best sounding pianos right now. I played a Motif XF sitting next to the Kronos and it was clear that the Kronos was a step above.

If I ever stop being broke I might switch to Korg lol.

Yes sir.  I do like my Kronos.  I also like my Motif.  They compliment each other well.  I use them both equally.... I'm doing alot of sequencing on the XF though because patten mode makes it easy for me to arrange backing tracks for us to use during church, then I just play the organ on top of it.  (It's just me and a drummer right now, our bass player went to college), So I gotta keep that full sound.  I've not been using it much lately though (XF) with pattern mode because of some transitions that we are going through.

But they are both very solid pieces.  (can't say I love them equally), but I wouldn't want to be without either of them.  If I had a choice though and only one could stay it would be the Kronos (HANDS DOWN)!!!  While my XF is important too... I could probably do equally as well with a Fantom G.  There were some things that I with I'd considered before I sold it (to buy the XF) that would have been benificial (it's own version of pattern mode).... I love em both though.

I just listened to this demo. It has a lot of great features but its like any other keyboard it sounds like it has some weaknesses straight out the box.
