Some keyboard help

Ok, I currently have a Casio Privia 575r and a Yamaha MM6. I honestly don't use the MM6 as much so I'm thinking about getting rid of both and going midi. I'm considering the M-Audio Oxygen 88 key, but I don't have a computer so I'm thinking about getting a rack. Is that a good idea? Can you still layer sounds and stuff? What are y'all opinions?

It depends on what you need/want.I did the rack stuff for about 10+years,still use a Roland jv1010 +Yamaha kx controller.

One day,I saw a yamaha add;one guy with a PILE OF CABLES -the other guy with a Motif and that still says it  all.You can do so much with one board in real time, WHY GO BACKWARDS?

Since you have a 88 wtd-look @ mox 6-still have a lot of capabilities-could triggger it from 88+ it has built in computer interface for about $1200.

Had a few minutes to expand on this idea: my JV +rack probably weighs in @ 6-10. lbs plus 10 lbs.for controller/case.

Roland(Juno Stage,BK 5); KORG( M),Yam (MOX) all 61 keys < 15 lbs. with decent stuff.That Yamaha add;guy with an A frame stand,3 different keys,and looked like 50 cables (strewn around like spaghetti around his feet) -having been there/done that-will pass.

With all the downsizing of gear;long term I think the computer will take over.(not my choice-reality).

I think Muse + Peavy have a down sized version of the Receptor-sort of a hybrid between rack gear/computer for <1k.I think it does VST/plug-ins,etc..Interesting  blend of technology.

I think the manufacturers are putting out cool stuff to cater to studio vs,traveling gigs.Hope that helps man.

Definitely appreciate the feedback. I think I'll stick to a workstation. Besides, all of the new boards are MIDI capable now anyway. Some might call me corny, but I'm waiting for Casio to come out with an 88 key workstation. I've heard of key problems, screen problems etc with MOs and Motifs and I'm not trying to pay all that money just to have to put out more money fixing it. So far I've never had a single problem with my privia. Plus, they're super affordable and offer great quality. (And I still say they have THEE best sounding organs besides Nord of course.) As you can see, they have me sold lol.
