No Service on Christmas!
« on: December 24, 2011, 12:14:15 PM »

Hey LGM,
I know a lot of ministries who are not having service on Christmas... hmmmm what do y'all think about it. My church is having an early service I think its only going to last for an hour and thirty minutes and thats excellence compared to any other sunday...

We are having one service at 10:00 instead of the usual 8:30 & 11:00 with no day care or Sunday school. I tunk that since Christmas falls on a Sunday this year that is appropriate. .

We had our "christmas program/ Carols Night/ Sing Songs Night last Sunday as most people were travelling home this week.

So I think instead of the usual 9-12 service we will have 9-11 since, i believe, my pastor has huge plans with his family for lunch.

I suspect there'll be very few people because of the area we're in...

We have service. We are usually there until 1:15. I hope we get out a little earlier.

I keep hearing people talk about churches that cancelled service, but I haven't seen one for myself yet. I mean, I'm sure someone did, and if so, that's their business. But I think its mostly one of those things where people are fussing about something that isn't even happening (or isn't happening in as widespread a manner as FB and others would have you to think).

Church folks just always looking for something to talk about...

Well if my service was cancelled, I would just see it as an opportunity to visit another service.  My Bishop never cancels service, though.  For Christmas, he cancelled Sunday School and the PM service, which is more than I expected, lol.  Sometimes on occasions where he knows people aren't going to want to be there, he'll tell us we don't have to come, but that he'll be there in prayer for an hour in case anyone comes in.  Sometimes people come off the streets based on your posted service times, and he hates missing someone who needed to hear a word because we haven't honored what we posted.  When he puts it that way, it usually compels me, the musician, to get myself out there and join him.  I feel like my pastor is the most dedicated person in the church, for which I'm grateful, but sometimes we should step up, too.

If that's the motivation for anyone not to cancel, then it's really sad..

Now this sounds like the church back at home. Even if there are conferences/ conventions elsewhere, there's always someone to welcome that 1 extra soul that walks in unknowingly.

My current pastor is also very dedicated- he doesn't want to go home because of church...I'm also kinda obliged to stay as I can't leave the few faithfuls on their own.

I [personally] don't think that a church should cancel service because of Christmas....and there's no snow, rough roads, or anything of the sort..if the church is scheduled for service, then have it....don't cancel it. God always live...
anyway...we're having service tomorrow and more.
