I think its pretty obvious that your dominant instrument has an influence/effect on the way you play and approach any subsequent instruments that you choose to pick up and learn. But you believe that theres a possibility of it introducing certain limitations?
For example, since I see some keyboardists play different patterns and rhythms in the left hand while doing something different in the right. Since my dominant instrument is bass, although my left and right hand are doing different things, they have to be coordinated and in synch. So its seems nearly impossible to begin to acquire hand independence, since my dominant instrument requires it. So although I can play keyboard competently at this point, and can grow tremendously, I think that continuing to play bass may keep some aspects of playing out of reach.
Now I'm ok with that, but I just wanted other opinions on the matter, and if this was a sound observation.
