Did you read this?

I just read this article about Kirk Franklin's deliverance...

Naked Truth
By Jawn Murray, AOL Black Voices columnist

Kirk Franklin may be a minister of the gospel, but the happily married father of four recently overcame an addiction to pornography. Franklin is frank in his talk about his deliverance from pornography, an obsession he'd indulge in while he traveled city to
city ministering the word of God and at home when his wife Tammy was asleep.

Though the Texas-bred entertainer hid the evidence of his pastime well, it was while lying in bed with his wife in a Los Angeles hotel room that he decided to come clean about his struggle. At that moment, Franklin knew he could conquer his demon.

"Because sexuality is so spiritual, you have to go back to that source to recognize that it's that connection to Christ that will give you victory over addictions. You learn what that is and when you're willing to go through the process of understanding that truth. Not necessarily the acrobats of religion, but just the simplicity of the truth of the gospel and your new identity in Christ. When you become born again and you're able to understand that and to apply that to practical living, then you are able and a
candidate for victory," explained Franklin, in his gruff preacher-like voice.

Despite potential scrutiny from judgmental Christians about his taboo addiction, Franklin has opted to be outspoken about his issue regardless of pending backlash. "I guess it's just my makeup," he declared. "That's just something that I am. I'm just very vocal about stuff. My weaknesses are something that God just presses upon me to discuss, and I'm very comfortable talking about it."

Franklin hopes that his openness and desire to share are part of the reason he's joined the world of blogging. "It's another new and fresh way to really be connected. It will allow people who are blessed by your ministry to stay part of the process," he offered.

Dear Brothers In Christ,

You can break your addiction to pornography. I know its hard trust me cause I am battling it myself. I wanted to share a few things I learned during this trial that may help those who are also going through this.

For me it was little things at first, just a picture or a story I read. But it only gets worse pictures leads to movies and then you continue down that path. If you are just starting to look at stuff stop now cause it is harder to stop later.

The other thing I learned is that Jesus is a gentle Savior. At my church we sing a hymn "Pass me not, O gentle Savior!". Once I realized I had a problem I prayed about stopping looking at pronography. And then whenever the desire would come on me. An exit would appear. It may have been a phone call, or the fact that I needed to finish my homework but a ram in the bush would always appear. And at that moment I would have to make a choice

Do I do the right thing and not look at this movie? or do I do what my body wants to do? It is true we can't serve two masters. It doesn't work. So why did I mention he is a gentle Savior because he gave me the choice. Sometimes I would make the right choice and then some days I wouldn't. I am glad to say that no matter how many times I messed up Jesus was (is) still there for me. And I messed up a lot. Turn from your ways and seek God its not too late.

There was one other thing that happened for me. I was getting tired of making the same mistake over and over. sometimes I would be doing great and then I might watch listen to some neo-soul music or flirt a little too much with a woman. And I would fall back into the same trap. I ,leaning on my own understanding, thought that if I got married that would solve all my problems.

Boy was I wrong. To a certain extent it did help but it wasn't the solution. The solution lies in seeking God. Everything else I tried never work but when I seek God it never fails.

I would try going to the gym to work out and physically exhuast myself but that doesn't work because this is a spritual thing.

I would try watching random safe movies to fall asleep to but that doesn't work because I would simply become restless.

I would try just listening to music and that didn't work either

For me simply praying, studying the word, and worshiping. For it is only when I am doing those things that the desire goes away. Like I said earlier yes getting married helped but one night even after spending all day with my beautiful amazing wife I still wanted to go watch some of that stuff. I knew right then and there that only Jesus can save me.

Sorry my thoughts aren't the most coherent but I felt I needed to tell you this just in case it might help you. You are not the only person to ever endure this. I have, Kirk Franklin has, and many others also.

Great stuff PHB! I too had to be delivered from pornography. So you can see why I brag on my God so much and my husband. He stayed by my side through it all. People have no idea that women deal with this problem too. Thank God for his mercy and his grace.

You are right, many people (myself included) assumed it was only men that were consumed by pornography. Thanx for yours and phb's testimonies. You dont know how many people this is helping who don't know what to do.
