Basic Shout on the iPad
« on: April 22, 2011, 01:18:28 PM »
Hello, I'm new here to this forum.  A good friend of mine told me about this site.  I wanted to share a YouTube video that I just uploaded today.  I'm playing a basic shout on the iPad.  All the sounds are coming from the iPad.

Let me know what you think?

So, am I to understand that you created a drum track on GB on the iPad, plugged your iPad into your keyboard but you're playing the keyboard?

Am I getting that correct?  ?/?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that he is playing his keyboard but using the sounds from his Ipad. Jamal Hartwell did a clip on that. The Ipad has all kind of piano/organ sounds that you can use on your keyboard.

Shut the front door!!!

So, in theory, I could take an iPad, hook it up to the keyboard at church and use it for better piano sounds than the keyboard currently has (provided there's a way to hook up the iPad to the amp for louder sound)?

That might actually make me look into an iPad---maybe.

That's the way I understand it bro. Jamal Hartwell demonstrated how you can even record midi files from your Ipad.

Correct.  The keyboard is just used as a controller.  No audio/sounds are coming from the keyboard.  All audio is coming from the iPad.  I wouldn't sell your Motif just yet.  I think it's almost there.  The polyphony is low (especially for Gospel musicians).  However, who knows when those developers will create an app that can be used as a decent piano sound with a good amount of polyphony and low latency.

Speaking of which last night in rehearsal our bass player didn't show up, and one of our keyboards was going to play key bass, however, the only other keyboard we had was a Yamaha DX7...a little dated to say the least.  I pulled up my Korg iMS-20 app and he started playing key bass.  For those who maybe are not that familiar with the Korg MS-20, the synths, leads, and synth basses sound very similar to a Korg Triton.  Actually, it's the Korg Triton that sounds similar to the Korg MS-20.

Well, the keyboard we have is an old (I mean like 10 years old) Roland.  I'm thinking it might not have the plugs (or whatever) to accommodate the iPad.  :-[ :-\
