WOWthats all i can say......i've been knowing and playing with this brother for 12 years, and every time he sits down at a keyboard.....and i mean EVERY TIME......he blows my mind!! You would think i've heard it all by now....that there's no way he could out do what he did the last time he went off.........but, today was no different!!!
The interview was really good, i tried to get all of the questions in....we were jumping all around on the paper, and i was trying to mentally cross off what we had and hadn't covered, so if someone's question didnt get in....what do they say in the old church....charge it to my head, not my heart
. But i think we covered everything. We spent about 30 minutes on the interview.
After the interview we headed to the keyboard.
He started out showing some basic practice techniques that he tries to implement every day.
He then played/covered several popular Kirk songs (He Reigns, Hosanna)....
And broke down the chords to a couple more (Before I Die, I Am).....
He did a couple of extra/special things for me that I'm going to keep wraps on until a later time, but trust me, it will be worth the wait!!
I had 2 to 3 cameras going at all times during the interview and playing, so its going to take some time to go through all the video and edit it, but i'll be sure everything gets posted here once its all said and done.
I was only going to do this with Shaun, but just as i'm sitting here typing this and basking in how awesome of an experience this was, i'm thinking about doing a series of these types of sessions with both professionals and non-professionals. The premise being the same as LGM....know matter how much we know, we all have something we can learn from someone else. I think Jermaine Griggs has something like that, where he has a lot of guest coming in to show/play stuff.....and i only watched a couple of the preview videos on youtube, so I can't entirely give a valid account of it.....but that series seemed to be geared more towards the advanced players, i know most of the stuff they were doin' went over my head, they were too good for me! LOL. What I would try to accomplish is to bridge the gap between the beginner/intermediate player and the professional, have the experienced player be talking directly to you, as opposed to an advanced player talking and showing chords to another advanced player, and the beginners/intermediate players have the deer-in-the-headlights look.......Sorry, starting to go off on a tangent.......but i'll put that on the shelf for later! Anyways, where was i......
I'm sorry, i get really long winded, i'll just stop talking now....but let me just say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all who posted questions for me....it really would have been a weak interview had I not had some "ammunition", very much appreciated!!!!
