LOL @ this thread and at Mrs. SJon

Maybe it depends on the culture of the office... *shrug* I've worked here for a total of 5 years (2 this time around) and no one has ever knocked while I was in there, nor have I ever knocked while someone else is in there.

I know that people do it elsewhere, but it's not done here. Ever. :P

yeah. Although, despite a knock, I did walk in on a women before. She was on the phone in the can at school, and probably didnt want to answer me aloud to conceal from her party the fact that she had the phone in there.

Come to think of it, I knocked and walked in on another woman at school. She didnt respond because she said she was just washing her hands. ?/?

RIGHT.

Especially in what appears to be a unisex bathroom.

I usually look for shoes...

What I hate is this...I have to draw a graphic for this:

You have a five stall bathroom (not including urinals for men):
                                                                                   1 2  3 4 5
                                                                                  |  |  |  |  |  |

...and someone is in stall 3, for example:
                                                                                   1  2 3 4 5
                                                                                  |  |  |x|  |  |

You are NOT supposed to come in and sit in stall 2 or 4.  You are supposed to go to stall 1 or 5!!  If 1, 3 and 5 are taken THEN you fill in 2 and 4.  It makes me mad when someone violates that rule.  Or even better....when they go in an empty bathroom and then sit in stall 2 or 4...that just throws the whole seating chart off.

.....I may need to see a therapist about this...... ;D

Hey Jonathan, I forgot your wife is a teacher, too... do they have stalls in the teachers' bathrooms? I thought most schools had the single person bathroom? Of course not all schools are built alike so I guess I'm asking specifically about the bathroom at her school.

I'm thinking (per CSE's story) that this is kinda different if we're talking about (a) a unisex bathroom or (b) a one-user bathroom.

I dunno... I just don't understand why you would use a public bathroom (public = NOT AT HOME) and not lock the door??? That's so strange to me.

ROTFLOL!!!!!

Our stall doors go all the way down to the floor. I don't knock. I will start now. I assumed everyone locked the door when they went in the stall.

The same rule applies to urinals.  If there are enough urinals that you don't HAVE to stand next to me, then why are you using the one next to mine?   ?/?

I need to print your diagram and put it in our men's room.   :-\

And now, I understand why the 'Man Laws' thread is back up.  :D

@LaRue, my wife doesn't teach.  In addition, if a teacher is lucky enough to go to a single-room bathroom, it doesn't hurt to knock--whether or not they lock the door is irrelevant, imho.
