where's T Block? nice chord
« on: May 28, 2010, 07:17:12 AM »
I've been playing around with the tune  "Shadow of your smile".Played it as a bossa nova,ballad,etc..The opening line of the melody has always been a challenge;simple arpeggio upwards then down to a C# over an F#m7 starting the downbeat on the second measure.

Came across this yesterday,I played an F#m7 chord in the left hand F#,A,C#,E over the B bass in the first bar-held the chord and simply move the bass to F# which made a nice smooth full sound. So,is this technically a Bm 11 derivative?

It's a great tune, nice melody;but it always lacked the "full " sound I wanted to hear-chord wise until i tried this.Makes for a very nice way of leading tones

Yes sir, that's a good old Bm11, without the 3rd of course. I use that chord all the time. Never thought of playing it that way though. I may put that into use. Thanks man!
