Need some suggestions:
« on: April 06, 2010, 12:29:44 PM »
Hello Fam,
I've got choir rehearsal today----Male choir----

1.) What are some EASY UNISON SONGS that I can teach them and still sound okay?

They have NEVER been in a choir before---have no kind of voice and can not hold a tune.
2.) Is there something---some scales I should have them do, or how can I began to try to train their voices?  They---really want to be there---which makes me want to try to do something for them.  I'm picking out hyms (upbeat) and some "old school-- back in the day" songs like "The Storm is Passing Over Hallelujah, "I Decided to Make Jesus My Choice".

Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Thanks

If all of that is true, why have a male chorus?

If ministry is supposed to be about giving excellence unto God, why do we allow such things to occur? *kanyeshrug*

My suggestion? Let your praise team sing.

Off the top of my head, I've got no suggestions. :-\

You may want to start them out with songs by Canton Spirituals, Eddie Ruth Bradford, & Debra Snipes. Those songs are fairly easy and most are in the key of C. Not sure if you have someone that would be willing to lead/ad-lib the songs. Here are a few songs that I have chorded out that I use for my male choir. I know a lot more, just haven't had the time to chord them all out.

"Ride this Train" http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,18343.msg95616.html#msg95616

"Don't Call the Roll" http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,61312.msg620927.html#msg620927

"Glad I've Got Jesus" http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,60194.0.html

"It Could Have Been Me" http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,57110.0.html

"It's In My Heart" http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,19146.0.html

"Lord You're the Landlord" http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,23833.0.html

"Too Close To The Mirror" http://www.learngospelmusic.com/forums/index.php/topic,67821.0.html

We have a Male choir because the Pastor wants one---besides, doesn't the Bible say, "Let Everything That Hath Breath, Praise the Lord"?  As  long as the Pator wants it and they want to sing----I'm going to help them!

By the way, we don't have a Praise Team either!

a. The Bible DOES say that. It doesn't say anything about having to do it in front of the congregation. :D ;)

b. No Praise Team?  :-\

c. I never suggested you shouldn't help them. I'll be praying for you. The Male Chorus is to me what kryptonite is to Superman.  :D
