PROGRESSIONS HELP

GREETINGS!!

so im new to this website and im barely learning about progrssns. my question is...


if you are playing any progression, how do you know which type of chord to play???? how do u know to play a 7th chord or if its a major chords  i know that it might swich tp 7-3-6-2 etc but how do u know what type of chord the 6 is or the two???? its kinda confusing me now any help would be aprecciated thanks God bless

for ex: if i have a progression that is:


1-4-5-2-1-7-5 (totally made this up)


how would i know what type of chords each scale degree is???
