The 1 Chord
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:26:17 AM »
Hey LGM FAMILY,

I've been playing for a while and I have only three variations of the '1 chord'. I know that there are plenty more to explore and I was hoping someone would point me in a direction of a post already with this information, videos or even post your own choice of playing the 1 chord for any key.

I've already performed a short search but come up short. I feel my playing is becoming a little stale and I'm looking for some alternatives. Thanks for the help.

Be Blessed.

Here are the ways I know how to play the one chord...
Key of C:
(To function as the root chord (C major) (e.g. 2-5-1))
C/GCDE
C/GDE
CG/BDEG
CE/ADG
CEA/DGB(D)
CG/ADEG
C/EGAD
CG/ADEA
CGD/EACF#
CGD/EA(B)E
CC/GCDG
C/BCEG
CG/BCDEG
CEF#/GABDF#
(To function as the root chord (C minor) (e.g. 2-5-1))
CG/BbDEbG
CEbA/DGBD
CGBb/DEbFGBb
CGD/EbBbDF
CEbG/BbCDF
CG/BbCDEbF

(To function as the chord in a passing major movement (e.g. 5-1-4))
CG/EBbD
CG/EABbCD
CGC/EAC#E
CEBb/DbEGbAbC
CEBb/DF#AD
CEG/BbDF#A
CEBb/DGC
CEBb/DAbC
CEBb/DGbAbBbC
CG/ABbCE
C/E(A)BbC
CG/EBbEb
CGBb/DFGAC
To function as the passing chord in a minor movement (e.g. 5-1-4 in C minor)
CEBb/EbAbC
CEBb/EbGBb
C/EAbBbEb
CEBb/DbEGbAbC (repeated - can be used major/minor as can a few of the major turnaround chords used)
CEbG/ABDF#
CEAb/BbCEbG
CGE/BbEbAb
CE/BbEbAb
CE/BbDbGb
CGE/BbDbGb
CGE/AbEbGBb

That's about all I can remember right now, it's probably much more than you wanted cause I'm guessing you only wanted the tonic major chords, but I thought let me just go all out  :D transpose at your will (but don't touch that transpose button LOL)
I'm pressing on the upward way.... you know this!!!

Why don't you tell us what chords you currently use as a 1 chord then we can give you some different ones?

There are all kinds of chords you can use as a 1 chord. Basically, any chord can be used on any scale degree as long as it sounds good and accomplishes what sound you want in your music.

Have you tried 6/9 chords? Very nice ending chord for the I.
