Need help again!!!
« on: January 07, 2010, 12:30:34 PM »
Happy New Year everyone!  Listen, I need help and QUICK!!

First: I'm MOM at my church and was just told last week that I am responsible for a praise and worship workshop to be held Jan 30TH!!!  I've been to plenty of workshops, but have never conducted one myself.  Please let me know of any resources, ideas, etc.  The audience will consist of praise team/choir members, lay members, musicians.  Need a something for everyone type information.

Second: Any advice as to how to approach pastors/leadership to ask that they not spring workshops (programs, musicals, etc) on me at the last minute (why do they do this???).  So now that I know about it, I'm on board and I so want this workshop to bless and be informative.  I feel out of sorts b/c I have so little time.  If only I had known a month ago, or even a few weeks ago!!!  I want to be and will be obedient, but I do not like MESS.  Please help.!!!!

The first thing you should've done is to tell your pastor that that's too short of a notice to get a decent workshop planned and completed.

It would appear that you'll be using local ministries (again, due to the 11th hour nature of the request).

A lot of times what helps is what has been tugging at your heart these past weeks/months. Find scripture that speaks to that, then find appropriate music.

What do you want to impart to those in attendance?

If I can think of other things, I'll post later.

As far as "Why do they do this?", I figure that they don't understand the amount of preparation and effort that really goes into it (just like people think that all the musician does is show up on Sunday morning and play).

The way I would approach it is to talk to other MOMs who have put on workshops and get a sense of how far in advance they started their planning.  And then approach your leadership and tell them that you're excited about the upcoming workshop and you expect it to be a blessing, and that for future workshops you want to make sure you do the best job you possibly can and you would like to be able to begin planning them _____ months in advance.

I'm sure other folks here will have advice for you about the actual Praise & Worship workshop.  I'm more of a choir person.

Thanks for your help!  I STILL don't know the theme of the workshop or what the hosting pastor has in mind (he has not relayed this info to my pastor or me).
Hopefully, I'll have some answers today or tomorrow.

In the meantime, thanks for the advice and encouragement.  It's working (I'm not pulling out my hair...yet)!!
