I don't think Jesus was "Cadillac" rich. He was rich in His relationship with the people and with His heavenly Father. The NT accounts showed a Man of character, someone who was beyond the love of money.

The extreme "prosperity" teachers would have you believe that it's all about health and wealth in this life, that faith is a force (as in Star Wars), that you have to work your way to God to get Him to bless you, to use Twisted Scripture formulas to exert control over your fate. But what about your immortal soul?

i'll say this:

He wasnt broke, he was able to make sure he paid his taxes.

He knew a trade. I'll bet you he could build a serious kitchen set.

While not a necessity in the Salvation equation, it makes for good personal academic study/

This.

I believe that not researching something because it's not important is bad. It would mean we'd still live in tents and caves, naturally; and spiritually, I feel it'd have us in the spiritual equivalent.

The bible tells us to study for a reason.

That article has so many holes in it you can drive a truck through them.... and that whole prosperity gospel bit is bogus anyway. For the most part the ones who become the most prosperous are the preachers who preach this nonsense and have those suckers buying their Cadillacs. If you are giving money to your church and all you can see from it is the pastor driving a bigger car every year.. something is wrong.. If a church is not doing something for the community at large it is antichrist in nature and bringing shame upon the gospel... Strong words I know... but true.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with being prosperous... but it is easier to get a rope through the eye of a needle.. than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.. I know of so many cases where churches grew prosperous but the more they gave the more they recieved... It is good and we are instructed to give to our churches.. but our churches are also told give to the communities in which they exist... and many churches do not to enough of this... Yes Jesus had a "keeper of the purse" but he also did for the community at large... and if he were rich he wouldnt have had to have a borrowed tomb.. or a borrowed room for the last supper.

Itr kills me with some of these programs .. how they subtly try to cast doubt on the truths we have been handed down through the gospels with distortions and out right falsehoods from some of the "other" gospels like the proven false so called gospel of Peter.. with bits like...

"Jesus and Mary Magdeline could have been married secretly and blah blah blah... " and stuff like that.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Indeed.

And this was my point. How can one know what is right/wrong, if they haven't studied it. Having information "passed down" or given to you by someone you trust doesn't make it right.

Then a lot of our oral history should be questioned because most of our history and stuff was orally passed down. Sorry to deviate from the subject but just thinking aloud.

I think it's a myth. (http://www.snopes.com/religion/finger.asp)

That's like people were saying not to use the word "picnic" at one time, because it was used by KKK when they were going to a lynching.
