WHAT WOULD YOU DO...I'M CURIOUS....
« on: July 15, 2009, 04:18:43 PM »
Hey guys,

Let's say you were THIS CLOSE to seeing one of your major dreams in life become a reality.  I mean...within months at the very least.

All of a sudden, you discover that to pull it off will take in excess of $5,000 to complete.

Even with you sacrificing $150 per paycheck to finance a dream, that still won't be enough.

DO YOU, at this point:

a) stop pursing it all together

b) come up with a hustle and find a way to get it from other sources

OR

c) just pray and wait until the rest comes about after you've invested all you could into making it a reality.

I'm real curious.  So feel free to be honest.  Thanks.

Depends on my cash flow and what the dream is.

Personally, I would sacrifice in othEr areas to put aside the max from every pay period. Additionally, I'd do like B3W said and I'd also seek out a few sponsors. Anybody who really believes in you will support your efforts if they're able.

Reason #4212 its good to have a rainy day account.

You can say that again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But most men don't like using umbrellas so I didn't entertain that thought at all.

Thanks Rue.

The latter half of C would automatically be axed. See the sermon titled "The Danger of Doing Nothing" by Bishop T.D. Jakes for more details.

It's a cliche, but I truly believe that where there's a will, there's a way. I'm not trying to sound like a self-help coach, but if you want it bad enough, you can make it happen. Exhaust your talents. What are you good at? How can you become better at it so that people are willing to pay you for it? What side-jobs can you get that utilize said talent? This may be the part of the process where you must show how bad you really want it.

...or you can buy some TV time on BET and sell one of a kind, personally anointed and miraculous prayer bathing towels.

Right!  A good hustle.  My point exactly.  Like maybe selling fried chicken dinners with a bite missing and claiming that MJ bit that chicken right before he went into Cardiac arrest.  That's kinda what I am thinking.  But that's dishonest man.

#2 mixed with fasting and praying is what I'd likely do.

I'll suppose that this dream has no time limit. With that thought in mind, I agree with everyone else. Beg and borrow; ask and plead; scrimp and save until the dream is achieved.

Yep.  It is confirmed.  I have been on LGM waaaay too long.  I KNEW that is what you would say.  WOW!!!!!!!!

The per-song cost for a musician on a gospel CD is astronomical when taken into perspective.

By the time you finish spending $5,000+ dollars, there is still the option to sell at least 520 at $10 a pop just to make back what was spent.

I don't even think I know 520 people.  LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because the group is not together anymore, there go your chances of going out doing "live gigs" to promote and sell.

I'm just thinking some things through out loud.

In the end, I might honestly take the demos we've made of the songs and give them away to the kids at St. Jude or something.  Seriously...

Where are you getting these price quotes from? Have you shopped around, or are you sticking with one company? There are many options out there, and I'm sure there should be something at least somewhat close to your price range.

Also, don't focus on just selling your CD physically. This is the age of technology...slap that baby on iTunes, Amazon, CDbaby...any digital distribution company. People use these resources to find and buy good music. I've bought tons of albums from people I've never heard of, because I came across them on iTunes or CDbaby.

Just some tips.

I tried B, but now it's pretty much C.

Some things seem to be coming together, but I still have to wait on someone else's decisions to put it into action.

Listen to yourself...or in this case, re-read what you've typed.  Then, answer this question for me: how much of a dream is this, really?  I mean, really.  If this is sincerely a dream of yours, and you're that close to making it happen- MAKE IT HAPPEN, MAN!!! (You probably knew I was going to say that too, since we have had this very discussion about a year ago.  lol)

I say when the opportunity presents itself to fulfill a dream, you should take it for that every reason.

I look at decisions like a snowball rolling down a hill. Occasionally, summer will come and melt the snow enough for you to move it. That's when you get a chance to make a decision to alter the course of your life. Once you do it, the ball starts rolling again. When winter sets in, you can't do anything except go with events, because the ball is too big to move.

Another one is: Life is like a car with steering wheels for every passenger: Everyone is trying to get to their own destination. How close you get depends on how often you take the wheel.

Both of those are my original quotes. ;)

Yep.

I told my grandma I don't think it would be wise for a future gospel artist to go and work at the corner of Bellevue and Third to make a CD!

Geesh!  Dat ain't sanctified or safe!
