« on: December 13, 2004, 08:56:42 AM »
ok yawl i know yawl probably gettin tired of my questions but i have one more!!!

like i said im a beginner and i noticed when im playing certain songs like

I love you Lord today or bless the Lord oh my soul
that i always use the same progressions and it gets so boring and irritating

example: when i get to the "thats why my heart is filled with praise" part, i always use the same old 1-6-2-5-1 progression

or "bless His ho-oh-oh-oh ly name" part i use the 1-6-2-5-1

and it sounds so predictable man does any one know any alternatives so my music wont sound so ughhh!!????? please help thanks

Here is a simple one you can use right away. This is in Ab.

DGb \ CFBb
BbFAb \ BbDbFAb
....that's
CE \ BbEbAb ...why
EbA \ EbAbC ...my
DAb \ FBbDb ...heart is filled with
GF \ BbDFBb ... (with) *play the melody then play this chord just after
AbFAb \ BbCEbAb ... praise

Here a version of Bless the Lord:

BbFAb \ EbAbC ... Bless
CEBb \ DbGbBb ... His
DbFAb \ BbCEbAb ... Hoooo

DGb \ CF (passing chords)
Gb (same Gb above) \ CFBb

BbFAb \ DbFAbC ...ly
EbGBb \ DbFBb ....("ly" continued)
AbF \ BbEbAb ...name

Hope this helps

They're just 2-5-1 progressions, filled up to 2-3-4-5-1. A few of the chords don't have the bass notes in them.

For a turnaround all you have to do is the same chords you know or those that I posted with one of these interjected at the end (before you go back to the beginning):

Disonant:
EBb \ EbGBb
GbC \ FAC

(bass note could be D, F or G)

or

Straightforward:
DC \ GbCF (grace note on the Bb)

(bass could be DC or A, if you're feeling weird you can do ADb)

or

Disonant:
G (just below the right hand chord) \  AbDG
F \ GbCF
Eb \ EBbEb (melody note Db just after chord)

(bass could be D, G, or A)

It may take you a second to get used to the sound of the last one.

As you can see though, they're all pretty simple chords. Nothing fancy (fat), and all except for the middle one doesn't have any bass notes played.
